Lightbulb #Scangauge

I'm considering getting a ScanGauge, but wanted to know if anyone has had any luck with monitoring engine oil temp and engine oil pressure with it. I contacted ScanGauge and they said they do not see these two sensors commonly reported with the GX460. I know I can use a bluetooth style connector to my phone, but I'm interested in something hardwired.

Anyone with a ScanGauge been able to monitor engine oil temp and engine oil pressure?

No engine oil temp sensor. You would have to use coolant temp. There are two oil temp sensors in the transmission (one on outflow from TC and the other in the pan).

Oil pressure switch is just for the warning indicator and not a full pressure sending unit.

Perhaps depending on the year, on a 2022 ObdFusion claims it can get engine oil temp (separate from coolant temp). I find it is usually 20-10 degrees lower than the coolant temp.
The OBD header is 7E0, code 2151, temp in F is (<byte #11> * 9 / 5 - 40). I believe you can make it a custom xgauge in the Scangauge II with that. I'm not familiar with the newer SG.

So the GX does not have an engine oil temp sensor? Or it has one but it can't be monitored?

I'll double check... I think I vaguely remember seeing that gauge available in Fusion but can't find any mention of that sensor in the FSM and don't remember monitoring. I need to look deeper. Thanks for the correction.

I scanned up 2021 FSM and no mention.

This Tacoma thread claims it is a calculated value based on coolant temp.

Oh my, there are people reading patents on engine oil degradation in that thread, the level of dedication to sleuthering the sensor/gauge is mind boggling. Thanks for the thread!

ObdFusion and OBDLink apps with the Toyota Enhanced Diagnostic addons are really powerful. They have PIDs available for almost every module in the GX.
