Default Has anyone noticed a rattle coming from the rear on their 2022 GX?

I've heard it when it got cold and since my brother (Master ASE certified mechanic) was riding with me the other day I had him try to track it down since we were on rough pavement.

He found it is likely coming from the plastic trim piece that's at the top of the rear hatch when it's open on the inside. He could take his palm and lightly hit the little hook used to lift the hatch with his hand and the rattle would occur. He said that the trim piece probably needs to be taken off and "glued" back down again as it's loose.

Anyone else notice this? I think he's correct as when it got warmer the rattle went away.

I'm thinking I'll just mention it when I go in for the first service along with having them turn off the steering wheel easy exit feature.

Can you PLEASE take a picture of that part you mention?

I have that similar annoying rattle in the rear for cold weather but couldn't figure out what that is. My young kid says it's on the ceiling, maybe the air vent. I tried to push against those but there is no movement. TIA.

If you're closer to Lincoln/Omaha than I am you could see what they say and let me know, otherwise, it'll be May before my first service.

I put a little piece of paper towel in there to see if it makes a difference this week when I'm driving in the negatives as that spot seemed to be able to move and hit the door.

I had a rattle that drove me crazy and it seemed worse at higher speeds or windy days. I finally tracked it down to the square piece in the rear exterior wheel well. While driving it would “tap” back n forth and from the inside it was extremely hard to locate. I basically wedged some steel wool behind the spot and the rattle and tapping was gone. Rattles and squeaks are so hard to locate sometimes.

This appears to be a photo of an RX, definitely not a GX.

I guarantee you it's not an RX as that's a picture of the 2022 GX 460 Black Line Edition sitting in my garage that's in my profile picture.

I have a 2022 GX 460 sitting in my garage as well, and the rear door opens horizontally and to the right, not vertically. Just like it does on this one: https://bringatrailer.com/listing/2022-lexus-gx460/

Doesn't your rear glass open up? Mine does. This is not the rear door, but the glass portion.

Just an FYI, the only rattle I have ever had with the car is due to the latch mechanism for the barn door. Simply wrap in electrical tape and all fixed. YMMV

Lol. Yes, it does. I never ever use it and had pretty much forgotten about it, didn't recognize the view. My bad. Now that I know where that thing is hiding, I'll see if that's the source of *my* rattle.

I should start that thread considering I've tried everything to find my rattle.

Things I’ve tried so far that didn’t work:

Back seat area:
-Adjusted the rear seat belt tensioners a dozen different ways
-Moved the back seats forward a few clicks
-Folded the back seats down

Rear hatch area:
-Checked to see if the jack was tight (it was)
-Tightened the jack more
-Removed the jack entirely
-Removed the tools and all panels from the back hatch.
-Removed the all-weather mats
-Removed the driver’s side rear accessory panels (the one where the jack rests and the one above it)
-Flipped the trunk door latch over
-Electrical tape around the trunk door latch
-Swapped in the BOFN door latch bumper stop
-White lithium grease on the hinges and latches

Exterior:
-Changed out the clips in that rear panel in the driver’s side rear wheel well and added foam padding between the piece and the vehicle body
-checked if the spare tire was secure
-checked to see if the chain’s spare tire was rattling

What else am I missing? lol

I tried one thing which seemed to work. I was opening the compartments on the rear door and found that the tool kit has foam on the front side but not on the rear, and it felt a bit loose in there to me. So I dug around and found some thin foam (about 1/4") and stuck it in there between the tool tray that opens downward/outward on the left side compartment on rear door. I think I may've stumbled onto something, because that definitely made it quieter back there. Just thought I'd pass it along.
