Honestly, I can't see buying a GX460 brand new this far into the model's age. A used one is much more appealing and I'm sure the next model or version will have a whole host of much needed updates. I remember driving the RX350 loaner last year when Lexus did my airbag recall and being impressed at how modern the interior was compared to the GX. I'm kind of surprised Lexus hasn't done more to modernize the GX...

I previously had a 2013 GX and now have the 2019 GX. Both were programmable to unlock the rear passenger doors by touching the front door handles and the rear gate push button. The manual details how to customize this.

Agree ... lame in this day and age, but be careful what you ask for ... reliability has dropped across brands as "technology" issues become more predominant. It's bad enough dealing with personal computer and smartphone (software) issues, but in my vehicle ?#? ... no thank you beyond simple smartphone connectivity.

And this is not even considering hacking that is at its infancy, but will invariably invade this space. I really do not want the life complexity of firewall and anti-virus and anti-malware becoming a necessity for my vehicle.

My priority is the "vehicle" and not "technology" ... and to this, the GX is about as bulletproof and reliable and as they come.

That is one thing I really miss from my 2015 Grand Cherokee and my wife's 2014 MB GL, especially with a toddler, but I have learned to just reach for the front door first to unlock the rear. Still quicker than fishing in my pocket for the fob. At least the hatch has a unlock button on the door, but it would be nice to just be able to grab the handle. However, these are just minor annoyances...

I got $8k off a Premium in February and at that time the dealer had 100 GXs on the lot across their two locations. I'm sure if I waited, the discount would increase as the year ticks along, but I sold my other vehicle and was ready to buy. I was still quite happy with the sub-$50k price for one that stickered just shy of $58k.

Bingo...there is a reason the GX was rated the most reliable vehicle across all brands/platforms for 2018.

A few years ago in Seattle a woman with a Land Rover was putting her infant in the passenger rear child seat ... key fob in her pocket ... and a lowlife jumped in the drivers seat, started the car and drove off with infant in-tow ... with the lowlife shortly thereafter tossing the infant-in-seat onto the street realizing that kidnapping charges were now in his immediate future.

So again, we all need to be careful what we ask for ... the software engineers that designed this Land Rover probably now work for Boeing ... soon to be working for McDonald's.

I should be able to unlock ANY door by grabbing its handle. Not going to the front and touching its handle to get the rear doors to unlock. Just like I can with my 2015 GS and our old 2010 MB.

Same with the trunk on my GS and rear liftgate on MB. Even when the vehicle is locked, I just press the button located on the trunk lid and the trunk opens (no need to press an unlock button like the GX). Same on 2010 MB. Just walk up to the locked vehicle and pull the rear liftgate handle, it unlocks that door and opens it.

Yep, on my car I touch the driver's door handle and all the doors unlock. The wife's GX is NOT that way intentionally. I know it is programmable, but she feels safer just having one door unlock.

If all the door handles had sensors, that would be ideal. If she needed to put something in the backseat, simply grab that handle and that particular door unlocks.

That was the primary reason for me to decided to do the rear door handle mod project. It's almost the daily occurrence that will need to put things in the back seat before drive away. Out of all the mods I have done to the GX, this one has been rated by wife as the "must"

I have no problem with a crossover and would love more tech but this is why I bought the 460

you want to feel underwhelmed - drive a 4Runner in the hills or mountain passes, that's one reason I traded my 17 SR5 for a 19 Premium. And they both get about the same gas mileage

I hate to burst your bubble but you do know that the GX is module heavy? Its not like the current vehicle runs zero computers, and I doubt any tech laden vehicle on the market runs a firewall or anti-virus but runs those exact risks you mentioned. If it has an ECU, its probably risky, and since regulations require an ECU, there probably not going to old school.

If anything, Lexus probably could update the GX with modern tech like whats found in the current LX without raising too many red flags to those who like a solid vehicle (not too many complaints on the LX forums about terrible tech)

I see where you're coming from, Lexus overall is not that advanced in terms of modern digital features as Audi or BMW for example, but since they use older versions they are tested for many years and they will not cause issues like other car manufacturers do. For the prices that Lexus is charging you'd expect better interface/design/graphics but id personally rather have a solid, reliable tank than a fancy doll that will keep breaking on me. I had a 2019 Jeep Compass, a 21k car as a rental for 2 weeks, it has fancy interface, like oil temperature, battery charge, when you come to a complete stop the engine shuts down(very annoying), you can link your phone and it will show you your txt messages on the dashboard and you can txt back by talking to the car, it has APPLE CARPLAY (cmon its 2019 Lexus) and even shows me tire pressure in each wheel, something my GX doesn't have and i wish it did, but at the end of the day Lexus is Lexus, you pay for comfort, quality, reliability and safety and that what matters i believe. I get into my GX and it feels like heaven, its an amazing vehicle and i don't think i could switch to something else and be this comfortable and happy when i drive, unless maybe its an LX570, but thats maybe an upgrade in a couple of years.

Our '18 Ody decided to have an electrical freak-out and we were told by Honda not to drive it. So, I was able to rent a new VW Atlas SE. I will say it's a very new vehicle. Built well. Pretty good gas mileage. Nice features like radar cruise, BLIS, LEDs, a nice infotainment system with CarPlay and a bunch of other nice stuff. You know what it didn't have? Comfort. After about 1.5 hours in it my lower back hurt. It doesn't have that silky smooth V8 and tranny like the GX does. It wasn't as quiet as our '14 GX at 75mph. It won't hold it's value as well as the GX will and it will cost you a bloody arm and leg to have service done on it. It made me glad we bought the GX over every other option we considered.

I do wish Lexus had CarPlay. But, considering Toyota just started supporting it, I'm guessing you won't see a Lexus with it until the 2020 models. But, the bluetooth streaming is really good. So, I'm ok with not having it.

It is actually available in several 2019 models, just wish they would get the Android Auto support added as well
