I've been on some hunting fire roads, but nothing as tight or as rocky as this trail. 1/4 mile in and it was a hard right, up a broken rock face, maybe 60' in length and a 10-15* incline. Definitely wasn't expecting it that soon. Truck just climbed at 25psi on 20"s

Yes, I founded, with some help from a few guys, a Toyota club here in Richmond. 5 of us Saturday, and hopefully more next time.

I made some changes this weekend.
265/70/18 Ridge Grapplers in SL load.
Factory wheels & 1.25" SpiderTrax spacers
Detours Off Road Hardware of Maine hitch mounted spare.

Rides incredible. Much better than the previous setup, and now some peace of mind with the full size spare.

 

Clever idea using the receiver hitch for a spare tire carrier! I assume it hinges down for access to the rear barn door? I like it!!
If it does hinge down, I hope it has a gas shock so if your wife or kid has to lower it, it doesn't drop like a ton of bricks and tweak something.
And some kind of spring assist for lifting it up again.

 

Yes it does hinge out away from the vehicle. It has a stop so that the tire lays parallel to the ground, and no there isn't a method of assist. Just good ole brute force. It's a simple design and can be removed. Easily.
No kids, and she rarely drives the rig. If she did then I'd just remove the assembly and let her drive around with the light on.

 

Been going back and forth on your hitch and Wilco Hitchgate. I like how the Wilco swings out, but it sticks out pretty far. Can you open your rear window without having to drop the spare tire? If so, I believe I’ll go the Detours route. Thanks.

 

So with your current wheel/tire setup and the spidertrax how much if any is the tire actually protruding out from the wheel well?

 

I did the same thing with the tires. The Nittos have been great. I did a little FL mud the other weekend and I could have done much more. Great tires all around.

 

Yes, the window opens with the tire upright, with a couple inches of clearance. I asked Mark to set the wheel as low as possible to retain as much rear view field of vision as possible. I from the drivers seat I can only see the top few inches of the tire. It's perfect in that regard.








My math via online calculators places the 7.5" wide wheel with a 1.25" spacer about the same as a 9" wide wheel with -6mm offset.




Agree. For what they are, they are wonderful. Had them on the Tacoma in a much larger size and these 265/70/18 are even better.

 

Had some fun out on the trail in Western VA yesterday. Came back with no damage, besides some pin stripes, and a new appreciation for this rig.

 

Sorry if I missed it did you buy OEM Scarlett Tailights or paint yours?

$80 at my local shop and should last 1-2 years. At that rate I can redo them 7-8 times and still break even on buying a set from Lexus.

 

You never mentioned why you ditched your old rims? Where are they now? What didn't you like? Why did you decide to go back to stock rims?
