Thanks for all of the replies and well wishes.

I decided not to re-buy one just yet. A few reasons came to the forefront. First, I need to hear back from Lexus as to why the PCS did not engage ( I should hear shortly). My collision is precisely the type of collision this technology is supposed to mitigate or prevent. Second, there is a refresh/redesign for sure, according to the local dealer, for 2020. Third, a quick looksee for a CPO with driver's package reveals none available; tons of premiums but not luxury. Fourth, most of the most-used HVAC controls can only be accessed on the touch screen. Fifth, captain chairs... the 2016 was the last model year with a second row bench seat; and I use the bench seat.

There are rumors of a hybrid variant for 2020. Wouldn't that be special?

In fact, IIHS doesn't test most large and luxury SUVs, but they do collect all of the injury claims data, and large and luxury SUVs perform substantially better than everything else on the market. In quality modern cars, who gets injured in a collision mostly boils down to physics.

I wouldn't consider any Subaru for safety unless I was on a tight budget. I think the lightest GX has at least 500-1,000lb over the heaviest vehicle in Subaru's lineup.

The latest XC90 would be a great choice but it's still a relatively low vehicle. Sure, for a single-vehicle accident, XC90 or a big Mercedes is probably the safest place to be. If I'm going to get hit by someone else, I'd prefer a full-size SUV or pickup despite Volvo's safety claims.

Weight doesn't suddenly become less advantageous if the other car gets bigger. If the Mack truck hits you, you still want to be in the big, heavy SUV, not a small car or crossover.

I looked at some of those crash results. Mine did not look as bad (on the front at least; engine could still crank on and off)), despite my impact at 65mph. My call to Lexus hopefully should clarify some of my questions on these crash results..

Glad that you made out of the crash alive. Good luck with your search on a replacement. Just a clarification, 2017 is the only year that GX Luxury only offers captain chairs. In 2018, GX Lux offers both captain chairs and bench seat. I traded in my 2017 for a 2018 for this exact reason. Like you, we routinely carry 2-3 passengers in the 2nd row, thus making the bench seat a requirement for us. Hope your search yields another awesome GX that fit your needs.
