i wonder if it reacts differently based on slope angle or other features present, or model year. hard to imagine that it just randomly determines what to do.
we should try on some different slopes, holding down the brake firmly first for a few seconds then see what happens. and also note if we have CC or DAC.
I have no CC, but I have DAC on my 15 premium.
I am 100% sure it has not worked for me so far.
tried on another slope but much steeper, somewhere 40 or so.
got into position, let off the brake, went back maybe a couple of inches max, beeped, flashed, brakes activated then the gx stopped. after 2-3 seconds it began to roll back slowly.
'12 with cc
What you just described is what lexus claims. Interesting, got to find another safe slope of 40 degree to verify this works. Thanks.
It just never worked for me on my 15 premium.
I did a test on a slope recently(10 degree?). When my foot was off brake (off gas too), it went backward, traction light was on and I heard abs like braking. But gx went back slowly, I didnt feel any meaningful brake force. This can be dangerous at stop light.
Then I did another test by switching to 4Lo, guess what, when my foot was off brake (off gas too) , gx moved forward this time.
From what I read here, I am guessing most folks will have similar experience.
BTW, Hill start assist is a standard feature for all trims.
interested to see about the results on a steeper slope.
the slopes i tried on are steep enough that even in 4lo it will roll back.
when i let off the brake i let off all the way suddenly, not a slow release of the brake.
I could maybe try with DAC enabled vs CC enabed. I have the ability to go back and forth with a couple of clicks.
i dont think it was mentioned as for stop light situations for the GX. I have seen that for others though. could be why the GX works differently than some others.
This can be challenging for me, hard to find 40% slope here. I mean this function is meant for stop light situation.

Tried mine out this morning. Worked as expected on hills... just a minor amount of roll back and then ABS engagement sounds with slip indicator on. I let it do it twice as it releases after 5 seconds or so. There could have been a buzzer but radio was on. Tested on way back from a nearby mountain lake.

So your gx stopped on slope after abs kicked in?
Mine didn't, it just kept rolling backward with abs on and slip lamp on. My test was on a 5% to 10% slope.
It did. It stopped and held for a few seconds... then brakes released... it caught again as it rolled backwards. I then put on brakes and proceeded up hill. Slope was in the 10-15 degree range. I was just in normal 4H mode with no special modes turned on.

Thanks, that is assuring, I just need to find a bigger slope next time, at least I have abs and slip lamp on for me. I guess this is a bit like downhill automatic downshift, you need all parameters set to get it going. Thanks a lot for the test.
If I still have your attention on this subject, I did another test on the same slope today. I noticed something interesting.
I let GX roll back after about 10 seconds with beeps and a bit of braking (foot off gas & brake on a 10% uphill incline), the car stops finally with engine light on and a message says 'please shift to P to start'. I did this on a very safe street with zero traffic. Please do not ever try this on a uphill traffic light condition.
So basically, GX shuts down by itself when there is NO gas/brake actions from driver, and car is rolling back slowly on an uphill. I would say this is a safety feature or malfunction?
