Dallasguy1: Get things squared away with shock order?
I decided to order it from the local dealer cas return/exchange process is too much of a hassle. I'm gonna be spending 100$ more then the online price but it's worth it. Picking them up tomorrow and my local guy will put it on for me.
I've not seen a 2012 specific TSB. I have seen that TSB...I think it was more for general guidance in the day for replacement criteria on listed vehicles while they were still in 4/50 warranty.

I need to replace the front and rear shocks on my 2010 gx460. Its the premium model with adjustable shocks and adjustable height. Oem replacements will cost almost $2000 just for parts alone. I'm also going to replace all bushings and ball joints as everything is beginning to feel sloppy. I don't really care if I lose the electronic adjustment of the shocks.
Any suggestions? Has anyone installed aftermarket fjcruiser or 4Runner shocks. I want to maintain stock ride height.

Im planning on keeping the airbag system. It works well and auto levels. I'm just Replacing shocks.
I'm not sure what will happen when the electronic shocks are removed. Suncore sells a kit to do this and I believe it includes a resistor install to bypass the electric control. Has anyone used the suncore kit?
I had replaced the adjustable shocks on my GX470 with the 4Runner ones which were 45$ each and there was no electric connector on the 4Runner but I got no error msg or anything.
$2000 for parts alone? For shocks?

Curious what they would charge for a 4Runner...
The front avs shocks are $350 each and the rear avs shocks are $700 each at the lexus dealership. I found some online but will still cost $1600 for all four. Personally I don't think they are worth the expense.
FWIW, I did this on my GX470 (previous generation) where I ditched the electronic adjustment struts on both front and rear. I used OEM Toyota on the rear and Monroe on the front from a Toyota 4 Runner. It rode great and no error messages and I didn't have to install any resistors to "fool" the system. I kept the stock rear airbags.
How that applies to a GX460 I can't tell you. I specifically went out of my way to buy the "conventional" suspension on this generation GX without air or electronic control. But considering this generation GX has both types, I would think it should be pretty plug and play to go over to the conventional shocks and struts.
You may just want to go to buy the Lexus OEM shock and struts for the non-air ride GX. I'm sure its way cheaper than the ones with the electronic control.
Not really seeing anything in FSM that anything on dash would light up either although rear bag system and all shocks apparently utilize the same ECU. There is an error message that shows up about issues with the rear air bag system though. Also listed in owners manual.
Techstream would undoubtedly see it as problematic but that would be irrelevant with shock removal. I guess one won't know for sure until shocks are unplugged on this system.
On a side note it would appear shocks actually have a control range of 1 to 16 steps when put into active test mode via Techstream.
