Default High RPM

I have a 2017 GX460 that seems to go to higher than normal rpm before shift in lower gears. Dealer said it was done to warm the catalytic converter, none of the other V8 have ever done this before. It seems to do this even when the vehicle is warm

Gearing is considered slow to respond with shifting here and I feel the opposite. I would prefer more RPM from my GX before shifting. I am used to V6 Acuras so not sure what your experience has been with V8s. All car manufactures have their own tuning with this and perhaps Lexus is different than other V8s that you have owned?

The 4.6L V8 loves to rev high comparing to the old 4.7L or 5.7L V8 (or even the 4.0L V6 in 4Runner and Taco). Put it in manual and it pulls awesome.

What the dealer meant is when you JUST started the car up, it revs high and loud to warm up the CC faster.

I'm used to big American V-8's, so they make their power at lower RPM. The 4.0 really likes its rev's, we didn't like driving it for that reason. felt gutless at normal (for us) driving style. The 4.6 ltr v-8 makes it's power at 1000 RPM lower than the 4 Runner's 4.0. That equates to better drivability. But still, if you are used to torque monster engines that make their power at lower RPM it may feel that way. The 3.0 ltr in my old F-150 made its torque at somewhere near 2000 RPM. so you never had to push it to get the power. modern engines rev more to make power more power out of smaller engines. It just takes a little getting used to.

I'm pretty happy with performance of this V8 considering it's rating. I wonder if anyone has ever put a GX on dyno to see if numbers match up.
