i put it in 4Lo, then finally i am able to go uphill. i just revved it and flew up hill with solid ice on road.
4LO saved the day. i didnt lock the differential.
Awesome! nice to get feedback on how great our GX is and glad you got out, thanks .

Default GX460 stuck in 4 lo

My 2010 GX460 just rolled over 100K, out of warranty and like clock work the vehicle is stuck in 4 lo.

Engine malfunction light is on, as well as skid light with 4 lo flashing. Anyone wave any experience with this?

Was it already in 4LO when the problem started or are you assuming that it is in 4LO because the light is flashing? It may be a silly question, but I ask because the engine light, traction light, and a flashing 4LO also occurs with the secondary air intake issue. It's possible the filter in the pump was sucked through and has damaged the pumps and/or valves.

You wouldn't happen to have a code scanner, would you? If so, I'd scan for codes or try to get it scanned for codes because it may not be stuck in 4LO.

Resurrecting an old thread.. my 4L and center diff lock get used at least once a month. A good reminder to try them out every 4-6 months to avoid anything from binding up from long term "non-use".

So for us newbies, what exactly do I need to do? I assume I need to find somewhere that's not pavement so like dirt road or grass? Put car in neutral and press 4-Lo then shift into D and then drive? When do I press the button to lock centre diff?

You only need a loose/slippery surface if you're locking the differential. You should be able to switch into 4L on a dry surface.

You can lock the center diff in both 4H and 4L, but that should only be done on a loose/slippery surface because all four wheels need to be able to turn at the same speed.

You hear about some 470 owners where nothing was ever engaged by previous owner and if it does work some loud grinding. Just make sure in neutral when you switch from H to L.

Mine is either silent or just a small click
