There is a TSIB from Lexus for this. It is a multi-step diagnostic and service procedure that may include tire replacement and changes to the steering rack depending on your specific condition.

Sorry to be short on details; I don't own a GX or have the TSIB number available - I just happened to recently have a conversation about this with the Diagnostic Specialist at my dealership. So, my point is that your dealership should know exactly what to do.

Found it! I hope the link works.

I looked it up using the word 'flutter', as I remember that was on a similar bulletin back in my GX470 days, and voilà...

Before going crazy, get your tires balanced by someone who knows what they are doing!

I agree, have someone who has a Hunter Road Force balancing machine that knows what they're doing balance your wheels.

Default GX 460 Vibrations

I have a brand new GX460 purchased just 4months ago, I exeperience vibrations @100-120KMPH. My dealer has checked the wheel balancing, and alignment and still the problem presist,
Can somebody help in identifying the possible cause.

Previously I owned a Toyota Prado for over 7 years and it was a peach of a vehicle and was an absolute pleasure, I am really disappointed with the GX460 drive with bigger engine, 6 speed gear box and more features lot more cost it has not my expectations of a Lexus

My vibration issue suddenly went away, I guess a rock in one of my tires caused it?

Mud will do that. We took a rented Ford Explorer way off-road and brought it back caked with mud. In spite of extensive power washing ... not to mention my wife's attention to the windshield ... the ride the next day after the mud had settled and dried was horrible. Eventually, the mud "spread out" or washed off with rain and the ride improved.

Moral of the story ... anything that sticks to the tires or wheels will cause problems ... even mud.

I purchased a 2010 GX460 with 24k miles 15 days ago as a replacement for my 2004 GX470 with 180k miles. The "new" GX460 has had harmonic vibrations since the first day I drove it. I first took it to the dealer where I bought it; slight improvement, but not right (they did not have a road-force balancing machine). I then took it to a local high-end tire place that had done a great job balancing my old 470 -- no change. I then took it to a high performance tire/wheel/suspension place; they made various adjustments, told me the balancing was "perfect" -- still harmonic vibrations at 62 - 84mph. Today I picked it up from another Lexus dealer that does road-force balancing; they determined all sorts of bad indexing and balancing. The service manager said it should be perfect - it's better, but now vibrates at low speeds and high speeds. I'm taking it back to the road-force dealer on Monday and the original dealer on Wednesday. This is making me sick!! I traded it my 2004 which drove PERFECTLY for what I thought would be a dream car and I HATE driving it! To be continued...
