Makes sense.

I have a 15 SR5 4Runner and a 21 GX460. The difference in seat comfort, ride and handling between just the two is night and day, mainly on long drives. We have now resorted to using the GX on the highway. The handling is much tighter on the GX and both feel like totally different cars to me despite the similar architecture. My 4Runner back end bounces around like crazy. Could be shocks are dead (stock at 134K).

Yikes ... many think that if an OEM shock is not leaking it is "good as new" in terms of damping performance ... but the internal valving does go "lazy" over time ... typically noticeable beyond 80,000 miles.

Yes ... your shocks are long gone dead.

Curious what condition stillen’s rear tires are in. That would be a confirming indicator that she ain’t no longer in track form.

it’s making me count how many 4Runners I’ve (or historically the bank) have owned. Started 1994. Both adult kids drive them. Oldest kid is on her second. I probably had one every 2-4 years. Yikes.
