Driver’s Side Mirror Housing Loose
Hope all is well. I recently purchase my first Lexus! It’s a 2004 GX470.
I noticed that the driver’s side mirror appears to be loose. It shakes/moves when on the freeway. I tried to search up online and the forums on how to correct this issue. On other Lexus vehicles, this issue appears to be corrected by tightening screws (T25?) on the bottom of the assembly. I checked the GX470 and there’s a small rectangle piece that I believe is covering the screws to tighten the mirror assembly. It looks like the previous owner tried to remove this rectangle piece before based on the pry markings.
Can anyone advise what is the best way to remove the rectangle piece to tighten the driver’s side mirror assembly? Or is there a recommended alternate location method to tighten the mirror assembly?
The base itself is fine. It’s just the housing assembly that folds in and out that feels loose.
Attached is a picture of the rectangle piece below the side mirror housing.
Thank you!
If it's flopping around you don't have anything to lose by using a plastic trim tool and prying that cover off.
Worst case you have to replace the housing. Dealer price is about $425. Amazon has Chinese knock-offs for $80 but they need painting.

I tried to take a whack at using interior nylon pry tools I used to replace my the oem radio and interior lights to remove the rectangle piece under the side mirror housing but had no luck.
I will need to try to explore other avenues to minimize damage to the housing.
