Smile Brake Controller

I have a 2005 GX and am the original owner. I wanted to tow a small camping trailer. It's under 2,000 pounds but the place I want to rent it from, requires a brake controller. I've watched a few Youtube videos and wonder if anyone could share some information about their experience with install and controller brands.

Thanks in advance.

I don't have a brand recommendation, but you should have gotten a wiring pigtail for installing one so the installer doesn't have to cut into the factory wiring harness. It plugs into the vehicle harness up under the steering wheel.

Default Curt 51120

I know basically nothing about brake controllers. But Texas Hitch recommended and installed the Curt 51120 (https://www.curtmfg.com/part/51120), and I'm very happy with it. The adjustable capability does make a difference in allowing you to set it "just right". I'm towing a 4200 lb dry weight RV with a 2004 GX470.

Highly recommend the Tekonsha Prodigy P3. If you remove the ashtray, it actually perfectly locks itself in there.

Then the plug and play wiring harness is P/N 3040-P

I was looking at the redarc offerings, the dial could be installed in any dash blank which is appealing.

2nd for the Tekonsha. Mounted ours by the left knee on the fuse cover. Bought a second cover to replace when not using the brake controller. Towing a 4500 lb unit with no problems.
