Power Steering Warning
My PS has a slow leak and ripped boots. I used that BlueDevil stop leak.
DONT USE IT !
I am not sure the leak has stopped, but this leak crud coagulated in the reservoir, large chunks of gooy stuff. Took it off (getting hoses off is a royal PITA with old OEM hoses as they get very hard after 11yrs). Got a Dorman replacement from A Zone. The small spout is basically glued onto the body, which broke off when the hose got about 1/8" onto the spout! Glad it broke off then and not later while driving! I do not recommend the Dorman replacement reservoir.
So, went back and had to spend 90min or so cleaning out the OEM reservoir. Need to do that carefully because of the mesh screens inside, but a pains-taken process of hot water and Dawn and a small poke stick to pull out to goop.
While the reservoir was off I sucked out the PS lines with my MityVac. Some oil and chunks came out.
I am in need of new PS stuff (rack, pump, reservoir), but do not want to tackle that now, the rack is kinda a PITA to replace.
Hint: When putting hoses back on, best to heat them with a hairdryer to soften them a smidge, and then a little oil/grease inside the hoses and on the spouts, try not to twist too much, twisting will have tendency to break off the small spout, push straight on with firm grip, make sure the hose gets fully seated.
And yeah, PS oil is gonna spill down, so be sure to prepare for that, lots of paper towel ready, floor mat, etc. I have epoxy floor so no biggy for me, later do a wash down in street with Dawn.
