2005 GX 470 Questions
https://milwaukee.craigslist.org/cto...683147138.html
I have been on clublexus since 2008 with 300 k miles on 2 LS430's. Is the GX 470 as problem free as my LS430 which has been stellar? I usually sell the LS's at 200 k and do no major repairs besides t belt and wheel bearings and sub woofers. I guess this GX I should check on timing belt anything else? Plan on using it as a third car so MPG's do not kill me but 18 on hwy seems normal? I live in a rural area. Thanks in advance. Great site!

Yes, there are very few options on these cars -- they come full-house
Cool items that break
- Air suspension (in the rear only) -- air bags in particular
- Adjustable ride height (rare)
Items that wear/break faster or in a weird way
- Brake calipers and rust
- Rust on frame
- Radiator leak (check for pink stains)
- Dash cracks

And keep in mind if there are dash cracks, the extended warranty from Lexus ran out in May 2017, so if it is something that bothers you, you have to replace it on your dime. Just learning this now as my new-to-me 03 has the cracked dash, and despite visiting the dealer every 3-4,000 miles during its prior life, the dash was never addressed.
And for what it's worth I averaged 18 MPG exactly on my return trip home from getting the GX.

FWIW, I'm averaging well below 18mpg on my '04.

I'm also looking for a used GX470, as a weekend getaway vehicle. The navigation system was updated to 5th generation system with better graphics and faster response in the '07 to '09 model, something to keep in mind.
The 2UZ-FE engine has common issue with secondary air injection pump failing, causing check engine light and sometimes the vehicle will go into limp mode. Toyota issued an enhanced warranty for the Sequoia and Tacoma models, but not the 4Runner and GX470. There are bypass kits available that is plug and play. It is recommended to do this mod before you run into issues.
The air bag from the air suspension lasts about 135K miles, and are relatively cheap to replace. The air compressor is not. People have converted it to traditional coil suspension with excellent results.
Good luck with your hunt.

I am the buyer of this GX and am picking it up this upcoming week. Looked at several others with similar miles. It's in really nice shape and has had only 14k put on it in the last 4 years. Service history is good but does need tires due to dry rot, the wheels are peeling, the 90k/9yr service is overdue and I'll probably replace the radiator at the same time, its missing the left rear roof rack cover, and a couple of the black door pillars are faded and pitted. Tow pkg but no hitch. I'm sure I'll have more questions once I get it home and start digging into it.
