GX budget coil conversion and minor lift
I have been looking for a complete suspension kit ever since the rear shocks have mostly failed.
Installation is 400$ for front and rear (Total), and the kit options I have are (In sub 1000$) are
1. OME - Old man Emu 1.5" lift
2. Dobinsons - 2" lift
Both cost approximately similar (Dobinsons is around 100$ more) inclusive of rear coil conversion.
What other options are there in the sub 1000$ range. I won't do hardcore wheeling, but will see some hairy forest roads and unploughed snow. Typical tough tracks she will see are buck rock trail ( The short cut), some easier Moab trails, and some mild rocky terrain. However ride quality is important, so not going for "Heavy duty".
I am aware Icon and Ironman Foam cell options, as well as Toyotech BOSS will give even softer ride, but they come out to be more expensive (1500$ range). In a budget, this is what I will get for this price.
Suggestions?

I put a 2.5 OME conversion on my 06 . I bought it from http://www.rocky-road.com/gx470-lift-kit.html. It got the medium duty for $900 and I think my local shop put it on for like $600. It was expensive but what do you do when the air bag don't blow up and you can barley drive your truck.

Funny I found this thread, I am at the same point and want to put a minor lift on my GX. I have found the same options as you and the OME looks like the best deal in that price range. However, I am thinking of extending my budget up to the $1500-ish mark to see if that gets me something MUCH better. If it only gets me a LITTLE better, then I am thinking OME. So, to add to your question, does anyone have an option that they would suggest that the extra $500 would make a big difference? And, what tire sizes would go best?
Also, overland, I read somewhere that the OME with 285/70 tires with 1.25" wheel spacers is a nice setup.
