Lexus GX 470 2007 verses Range Rover
Which is a better made car for longevity and repairs. I have a 1997 Landcruiser and am needing to find another similar vehicle. Have had a Range Rover in the past.
Thanks for your in sight. I love my LC!

We had a 1997 Land Cruiser and it was great.
The GX 470 is similar to the Land Cruiser but with more luxury interior.
We also had a Land Rover and that and the Range Rover are more true off road vehicles. They are Brittish and much fewer than the Lexus so parts are more costly than the Lexus. Land Rover has nice forum support so can check there for questions.
Land Rover trucks value plummets fast so you probably could get a better used truck for the money than used Lexus. Lexus holds value better.
I would say if you want to go off roading go with the Range Rover. If you want an awesome truck with the feel of your awesome Land Cruiser but with luxury appointments go with the GX 470.

I would have bought a used Land Cruiser or Lexus LX if I could have found one in the price range I wanted to spend... Found my '07 GX with 124k at a Lexus Dealership - it wasn't even on my short list until I took it out & it had all the service records. After I bought it I put BFG K02's on and swapped out all the ugly/faded gold trim w/ new chrome. Personally I would off road it in a second if I wanted/needed to - large population uses the GX for off roading fun.
If I had a good mechanic I already knew, trusted and worked on LR/RR's, then I would have considered them more - but after reading all the reviews on the GX, checking the forum for issues, and reviewing the service records, I was sold on the GX (even though I don't think it's the nicest looking SUV out there).

I like them both, never owned a Range/Land Rover. In the last month my 2006 GX470 with a 3" lift, skid plates, rock rails, 32" al terrain tires has be driven around 1200 miles off road and 2 weeks carrying me and my dog camping across New Mexico and one week was with "Classic Range Rovers" (1998 models??).
I think the GX will be more reliable, but either will be fun

Depends on your needs, which you didn't tell us. Search youtube for videos by a guy named Doug DeMuro. He bought a 2006 Range Rover and details all the maintenance and repairs he went through with a Carmax extended warranty.

As a former owner of a 2003 Range Rover, I can tell you that there is absolutely NO comparison in reliability between the 2. My Range Rover experience was just as bad as everyone else who preceded me. I thought that being an avid DIY guy, that I could beat the odds and not spend $$$$ in repairs. I was dead wrong. That thing was in need of repair every couple of weeks, and was such a pain in the a$$ to own.
Our 2008 GX with 146,000 miles has been the total opposite. The alternator is the only repair I have made in 1 year. I would say that the quietness and smoothness is about the same between the GX and Range Rover. The Range Rover is probably a bit more fun to drive, and certainly packs more panache than the Lexus. But unless you can put up with the headaches, Rover ownership is not worth it. And if you do decide to buy a RR, I highly recommend having a backup car that you can use while the RR is either in the shop or in your garage in pieces.

Agree. Britcars make terrific second cars. Not so great as your only transportation.
