Ouch, tough crowd! I was actually shooting for something in between "Soccer Mom" and "Xterra". You load the thing up with 4 dogs or 4 skiers and you need the extra space on top... it's how we roll up here in Tahoe. If there is interest I will retro the removal and post the pics as soon as I get a chance.

I like the basket and no running board look... I could use the extra space for carrying my boat covers around. You really don't want them inside the car, the basket has the added benefit of drying them. What brand is the basket? I must admit that I find the lighted feature on the running board useful and would miss this if I removed them. I would probably only do it if damaged...

The rack is a Yakima LoadWarrior, pretty easy to find: http://www.rei.com/product/652474/ya...rooftop-basket

I would probably miss the running boards if it wasn't for the nifty step inside the back door next to the seats. Its perfect for loading and loading the roof.

Been thinking of removing mine and finding some black steel side protection like a rock slider bar

anyone know of the thread where someone cut down their running boards for a more flushed look that covered the "teeth" of the front attachment area?

Look at your thread on mud, what did you use to cut them. Wondering if a dramel will melt the plastic or what to use?

also, did you use anything to cover the holes?

Cut them with a utility knife. I eliminated the part that goes under the doors. Too much a PITA to keep it and you don't see the holes with the door closed.

You can use a Dremel or a cutting wheel, just put a painters tape over the area and cut through it. That's what I did and it worked perfect. If you're in in New Mexico, I wouldn't worry about filling the holes. I left mine exposed, and I'm in Arizona. If I were in a salt state, I'd figure out a way to keep salt out of there, but it's no big deal out west.

To vorticity seeking a right hand running board, I am in Lone Tree near Sky Ridge Hospital (Lincoln and I25). PM me if interested.
