Replace key w/ flip key ( from ebay ), can't start the engine :(
my GX key is literally like a piece of junk, glue & rubber band around it. So bought a new blank flip key from ebay, got it cutted.....now can't start the engine at all. It turned on everything, but the engine just kept cranking.
Any idea ? I've noticed the keyblade is like 1cm longer or something, is that cause the problem ?

Just put the old "guts" into the new key and you will be fine. The new "guts" needs to be programmed.

I believe holding the old key next to new one will not help. Transponder is a little preprogrammed chip in your key fob to give signal to your receiver that is build into ignition switch ring so the working distance is about 1/2" to 1" max. (at least that is how it works in Mercedes cars).
Rosco is correct, install old guts into your new enclosure and you will be fine without any reprograming.
Both of my Mercedes key fobs are like brand new, bought used fobs and swapped out guts and blades with my originals.
Good luck, Bernard

Yes, it does.
"Ignition key contains transponder that is recognized by the AAM (All Activity Module) through the ring antenna of the ignition switch to achieve the imobilizer function (DAS)." I believe you are too far from the ring antenna with your new key.

Absolutely true. The chip that is in right left corner of you remote brain is too far from immobilizer antenna. You have to take out the chip from the remote and glue it in your new shell as closer to the blade as possible.

I have all 3 original keys with my GX, one of them was in pieces when I got it but glued it all together and it is still working. I got oem Denso key shell on e-bay for $1.99 with free shipping (seller first refused to ship it and offered refund but after argument I got it). It was the long blade version so first thing I did to it was cut it to correct lenght and made radius corners on the tip of it on stationary belt sender.
Now, I can take it in and have it cut at the dealership or locksmith to fit my car.
I know from my Mercedes ML that the key transponder to ignition ring antenna distance is very important.

if you really want to use that key, the only option is to tape or bound the valet key to the ignition. kind of like what you would do when you add an aftermarket remote start. you might be able to to find a remote start sense box or some kind of bypass to attach the valet key to, then wrap it around the ignition.
