Is this a good deal for GX??
Hi all, let me introduce myself briefly...
I have been looking at all SUVs and cars for about 6 months now. I was relatively sold on the 2006 Lincoln Navigator but felt a little uneasy about reliability. My girlfriend's aunt has an LX and I never gave it a though because of their expense and skipped over the GX because I don't fit (too tall) in the 4Runner. About a week ago I test drove a 2006 GX470 and absolutely fell in love with it. It is honestly the perfect blend of what I want.
I have found a 2004 GX470 with 60,XXX miles at a Lexus dealership NOT CPO. It was a trade in that was sold from their dealership that was traded on a new GX470. The car fax is clean and it has KDSS, Nav, 3rd Row, DVD, in Gold on Ivory. They are asking $22,700. Is this a good deal? I never bought a Lexus, might they come down a little bit $1k, on the price or so? Thank you all very much ahead of time for reading this, and hopefully I am a proud owner of a GX soon!

I hate to sound so misinformed, but is KDSS the selector that changes the sway bar's stiffness from "Comfort" to "Sport"? And is it good to have or just another thing to go bad? I'm not used to the whole reliability of Lexus/Toyota, I drive a Chevy (nightmare) but my girlfriend's family swears by them.

If you got the truck for $22700,that is a good price but I would still try to get them to come down. If they do not want to budge on that price,I would say ok,but,I want it certified.
For comparison,we bought a 2004 GX about tw months ago. Fully loaded with the exception of KDSS,52000 miles and certified. We paid $24000. Good luck.

Agree - push to have it CPOd. The OEM warranty was 4/50 and obviously the design/parts etc are still current. CPO warranty is 3/100K (total vehicle miles). For them not to CPO it makes me a little suspicious - especially in these times when SUVs are tough to move.

The car fax, service records, and website say it is CPO'd, but when I talked to the saleswoman she said it is not, that it is buy as-is. At the very least I would be curious to see the Lexus CPO Inspection sheet to see what it says about the vehicle. She said it shakes when you hit the brakes, making me think that the brake rotors are going on it, not a big deal IMO. It has no DVD remote or headsets, I really don't care because I don't have kids. It has interior damage, the ashtray was ripped out and the plastic by the gearshifter (where the numbers are) looks like it had something really hot laid on it, because it has about 1/8" lines melted/molded into it horizontally. She said that the parts are $460 and can definitely be installed yourself. I kind of think that might have been why it hasn't sold since September, I feel alot of people (not everyone) sees that and says no thanks I'll find a cleaner/nicer GX.

You know, now that you mention all that,I would offer them $20,000 and no more than $21,000 certified. Tell them you will not take it unless they certify it. It will cost them $1000 to certify it.
I bet brakes and rotors will cost over a grand at the dealership.Be careful and good luck. Oh,one last thing, being that the truck is closing in on 3 months at the dealership,I really think they will let it go for 20k as is with no certification.
Let us know what happens.

Update:
So I am definitely sold on the GX, however the one I originally posted in was about 18 hours away (driving distance) from me and I have since passed on that truck. However, I have found a local 2004 GX470 within an hour of me at a GMC-Pontiac dealership. It is in awesome shape. Blue pearl with tan interior. It is at 50k miles and has been on the lot since the end of May '08. It has navi, 3rd row, rear air, unsure about KDSS, just no rear DVD. They are asking $22.9k so I figure I will work them based around $19.5k and see where that gets me. Hopefully I will have pictures of a new truck sooner than later!
