Default Cabin filter

Does anyone have any pictures of the procedure to change out the cabin HVAC filter? Is it a DIY job, and what is the cheapest place to buy the filter?

Thanks

Check the owner's manual - it has description with pictures - a definite DIY job. I buy mine from Toyota of Dallas (toyotapartsales.com) - around $17 each.

The oem filter is expensive as I paid $32 from the Lexus dealer. You can make your own for about $3 a piece by buying a high quality hepa filter for your home heater from Home depot then just cut out the size you need and slip it into the the plastic frame.

I paid $40... I figured I'd buy it one time from the dealer, to see if there was any reason to continue the practice... No, the part is a generic Toyota part (no special Lexus gold-plating or anything ) so moving forward I will either buy the part from my local Toyota dealer, or do the Hepa filter route... It's a pretty cheesy piece really... nowhere near as specialized as the cabin filter in my BMW (which was $50 BTW... )

Check Sewell Lexus' website for the part numbers. I don't have my regular computer with me today, but I know different year GX have slightly different part numbers. For example, the 07 GX has a charcoal impregnated filter (YZZ03) and some of the other year GX do not (YZZ05). Not much difference in the filters in my opinion. The 4runner filter has a different part number. See this list:

I just bought the 87139-YZZ05 filter from the Toyota dealer, $30, its the same one as the Camry V6. They didnt have the 87139-YZZ03. The installation was about 15 minutes, not too bad. The hardest part was sqeezing the glove box from the tap to free it, You almost have to break the thing in order to get it out.

The YZZ003 is $25 from Park Place Lexus - I order both the engine and cabin filters from them - good price and service! Much better price than from my local dealer!

Man, I wish I have gotten it from park place. I wonder if there are noticable difference between the charcoal filter and non-charcoal. The way the charcoal is pack into the media itself, it doesnt look like it will make much difference and the charcoal doesnt look like it will last very long.

I have seen the non-charcoal filter and it looked very thin and cheap, you could almost see through it - I would go with the charcoal one.
