Default Direct Connect Sirius for '05 GX?

Just returned from the dealer and they stated that the ES330 kit will not work because the harness is different. They never heard of it being done (which has been said several times on this site. I guess I just had to hear it from my dealer too). They offer the typical external dash mount w/FM modulation setup (Yuck!).

I am in touch, however, with a NJ co. that is looking into the Toyota Prius Sirius setup for my GX which is direct connect. In searching prior posts, I saw something about this. I will let you know what they say. In the mean time, does anyone know of a professional shop in NY/LI area that will install the ES330 or LX kit? At this point, I'm really not sure what works. I just hope that I don't have to settle for the FM modualtion setup.

Tx!

I dont know first hand if the following LI shops can do your set up but it wont hurt to try..
1. Unique auto sports (unique whips on speed channel) grundy ave in holbrook, will definitly make something but you will spend some $$$$$
2. Main street stereo- sunrise highway in sayville
3. Classic Auto sound vets highway in holbrook 631-588-0810
4. Car tunes I think its in farmingdale on rt 110.....
Thats all know off the top of my head...you can try google and type LI audio installation or something to that effect. Hope this helps some.

Default Huge number of post here on this- I am doing the same (m)

thing myself on my '06. Several fellow members have personally done it with either an ES kit or an LX kit. There are 2 harnesses for an ES- I tried one that did NOT work--must have had the wrong one. Depends on if you have Nav/ML or not. I now have on order an LX kit, since it also has an external antenna for much better reception. More work on the install, but its the way to go. What I would do is go to lexus-parts.com and look at the Sat options for an '06 LX. Look at the fit kit AND receiver. The fit kit has downloadable instructions which are pretty similar for the GX, except the radio/wires go down the driver's side of the vehicle & not the pass. side. Do a quick search and you'll see many. many threads here- I intend to re-start my own installation this weekend if the new harness comes in.

Lexus Bob:

Yes, it will work. I have an 05 GX 470 and I had the first ES330 Sirius kit installed in Charlotte. The dealer told me the same thing. The tech in the shop was willing to try it and it works just fine. I was a bit unsure until I read of one of the members who installed a kit in his 05 GX.

I had the ES330 kit installed in my '05 GX about six months ago and it works fine using the AM butoon to switch through SAT1, SAT2 and SAT 3. Only drawback is the 10 letter limitation on the screen which could probably be fixed by an ugrade to the NAV if Lexus provided it. My dealer thought it would not work but a tech installed it to the surprise of the GM.

Thank you everyone who responded! It sounds like the ES330 and LX solutions will work regardless of what my dealer says.

The NJ company that installs Sirius in the Prius thinks it will work in the '05 GX (I sent them pix of various nav screens). They want me to drop by to let them try it but I live too far away. I might try caliing some local auto stereo install companies to gather more info. Also, I heard from Lexus-Parts.com (Sewell) and they are doing an actual install of an ES330 kit in a '05 GX next week. Will keep you posted.

JWS3,

Do you know which LX kit will work for an '05 GX w/ML/NAV (the '05 or '06 LX kit)? Also, can you provide the downloadable install instructions that you mentioned?

Tx!

Default As far as I could tell the kits are the same, or at least the part numbers are (m)

Here is what I used and what is now working:

Kit: PTS31-60050
Radio: PTS31-00052

Here are the instructions:
http://www.lexus-parts.com/LX_Sirius.pdf

I am told that the ES kit is "easier" as it requires less wiring. BUT--and this was the deciding factor for me, the antenna in the ES kit is unacceptable. It is a HUGE triangular thing that sticks to the front windshield--hardly optimal for reception or looks. An external, rear mounted antenna works far better. Since I'd have to run an external antenna to the back anyway, I figured I might as well get the kit with one included instead of paying extra for one.
I actually, with BobGX's help, took some pics, but need to figure out how to post them. Any hints?

Jim

You may need to see what connectors you have in addition to searching the board. I am only familiar w/ 05 & '06. I'd be surprised if it doesn't work, though.

Thanks JWS3!

Do you know if I can install the ES330 kit and simply purchase the external antenna that you described? Also, I believe it is the '05 ES330 kit that I need and not the '06. Part #'s I'm not sure about but can probably obtain from Lexus-parts.com.

Default Good question- and I am only 80% sure of this answer:

I had the wrong ES kit--bought the non ML version and likely needed the ML version since I, like you, have NAV. I tried the PTS31-33050, which was like the LX harness, but not long enough (same connectors, just couldn't reach the amp). I likely needed the PTS31-33051, which accomodates NAV. Again, since I never actually tried this I am only 80% sure...... But, since the kits cost the same I went with the LX ], as the antenna is included. Either way, the p/n's seem the same for 05 & 06.

Hope this helps

Jim

Heere is whay my installer told me:

You need the standard kit. PTS31-33050. I saw that you had bought
the ML kit. So I swapped it out for the correct kit. I told Rob to tell
you, but I guess he did not. The ML ES330 kit will not work. The kits
that work are:

XM
ES330 86100-0W100

Sirius
ES330 PTS31-33050,PTS31-00052
LX470 PTS31-60050,PTS31-00052

Any one of these kits it will work in a 05-06 GX470 W/Nav.

My GX has Nav and the 33050 harness did not work- It had 2 small M & F) 12 pin connectors on the Nav/radio and AND 2 larger 16 pin connectors (also M+F) that match up to the amp--which in the GX is located under the driver's seat. Check the install directions posted on lexus-parts.com and you'll see that the ML harness, 33051, uses only the small 12 pin units. Other posters here who also have Nav and used the ES harness also used the 33051 harness.

I cannot say for sure which will work, but can say that the 33050 with 4 connectors total on one end and one to the Sirius radio on the other did NOT work. The LX harness, however, did work. I am curious. however, as to what you guys find out.
