Hi all
My son just acquired a 05 GX with KDSS system.
Front stabilizer is leaking.
Looks like it's missing boot clamp and boot appears to be sort of chewed up.
I figured as much as that it is a pressurized system and requires special tool for repair.
Couple rookie questions
1. does it have dedicated fluid canister, or it's sealed system?
2. I am figuring, it is not a DIY seal replacement project?
3. Anyone knows, how abouts much is repair, to stop leak?
I don't have KDSS but my understanding is that it's a sealed system that runs at very high pressure.
Unless you have a very high-end 4x4 shop near you that frequently works on 4Runners, this will be a dealer repair.
How long can you run with this leak? Since this is controlling a suspension component (front sway bar) I wouldn't wait too long as it will affect the handling, meaning you can't swerve to avoid an accident. Or might increase the chance of a roll-over.
If this is purely an off-road GX, then I wouldn't care since a loose KDSS will get you more droop.
Thank you.
Yes, it's sealed system, akin to brake accumulator/actuator.
No, son will not use it for major off roading. They just need SUV because of child and he, for some reason, stuck on getting old GX. About 1.5 mth ago, he flew to UT, to buy a brand new 4Runner, that totaled 2 weeks later. Yep. Not at his fault, so he didn't lose any $$, even made some, as they valued it based on our local pricing. He changed gears and now he has GX with 177K miles.
I finally drove it yesterday, they returned from OR, where he bought it in Eugene. $13.5K.
Drives all right. Badly cupped front off road tires, very noisy at high speed and ending in vibration after 60 mph.
Everything seems to be working as it should.
Vehicle is in decent condition.
Personally, I'd not buy it, but not my dime. Too small inside, too "boaty", too expensive to repair. Oh well. Sounds like we'll have quite some bonding time with my son, as I have full blown shop and car lift.
