Navigation DVD
Hello, and welcome.
If you already have a single din, and your vehicle came with a single din to begin with? Then you can pretty much go with any aftermarket Double din DVD/GPS unit out there. If you have an aftermarket single din but want to get the Original screen then you have to first source the parts. Of course, don't forget to grab the wiring schematics.
There are also, a few YouTube videos out there showing you how to remove the Original DVD Based Nav. to give you a clear view of what's involved.
Thank you! I’m learning so much about this tank!
Let me be clear, the car came equipped with factory nav, just the radio was changed to an aftermarket head unit.
I wish I’d didn’t come with Nav from the factory.

Post a pic of your center dash so we can see what you’re working with.
I’m not sure if PO had that installed, but i still have all the original Mark L, speakers goodness.
back to the original question at hand, how would I go about checking the version of my navigation and upgrading if it’s old?

Okay, so at least it's not the entire dash, it is just the Cassette portion of the OEM system which is missing. This now comes to mind when looking at your system set up:

Hopefully by now, you've realized that the, "Version of Navigation" is dependent on disk. Easiest way to tell is by ejecting the disk, which (The unit) is located underneath the passenger seat. I am sure, the disk will tell you what version it is, without going into too many screens to look at SW.
Upgrading is again just that, the DVD( As this is a DVD Based Navigation). There's been a few members on here within the past week whom have purchased the latest SW. Search for the words; Navigation, Update, and I am sure you'll get a few hits. Good Luck!!!
Thanks a bunch! Huge help!

I agree, looks like the previous owner installed a Beatsonics interface allowing you to replace the factory tape deck with an aftermarket head unit, which is a really nice upgrade!
Nav update is via replacement DVD, but don't expect much from it.

When I purchased my original 2006 GX470 way back when, I found the technique on this site to allow navigation entries while moving (menu-volume-upper left-etc-etc.), and have safely enjoyed that option immensely over the years. I recently updated the navigation disk from the original disk to the latest version #15. According to the dealer, #15 is the latest, but I purchased it on Ebay.
Everything is current and works except the ability to override the navigation lockout while moving (menu-volume-upper left-etc-etc.). Is there an "up-dated" technique to override this new version's lockout, or am I out of luck?
Also, my 2018 GX460 is more advanced and has options to add/delete/update while moving, but is there a way to override the nav system lockout?

I bought and installed the upgrade from this vender 2-3 weeks ago and its worked fine ~ $16 for East and West DVD's.

Tried to use the Navigation last week and there were a bunch of gaps in the map. Checked the disc vintage using the info screen and it was the 06 version so likely the original and decided to splurge on an update but the links above did not work so I searched ebay using the info above and ordered a set from the vendor guidancegadgets which seems to be working fine so far.
