Sharp buzzing behind dashboard and intermittent AC

Sharp buzzing behind dashboard and intermittent AC
The AC on our 05 GX470 has been intermittent lately - it comes on and blows cold and then after about 30 seconds - 1 minute, it blows ambient air and then back again. I had the AC recharged professionally, but all that did was make the air blow a little colder.
Other symptoms are a sharp series of buzzing sounds from the dashboard (kind of like an old motorola flip phone with a particularly aggressive vibration), usually on startup, with the AC on and on certain air direction settings. it usually goes away, and there seems to be no issue switching from floor to face to mix etc. Is it one of the blend doors? Something else? Any ideas at all would be much appreciated!
