Default Cv boot rip

What’s the recommended course of action for an inner cv boot rip, replace the cv axle? Is that cheaper/better considering labor? What is a decent but in expensive replacement?

Since the wheels don’t spin unless you lift both sides I think, should I walk next to it while someone drives it to determine if it makes noise?

If you can hear drive shaft noise while driving, the shaft needs to be replaced. Replacing the whole shaft will be the least labor cost. Or DIY to fix the boot.

Attached picture is a DIY split boot repair kit over a crack boot.

If the CV is old (perhaps original to the vehicle) then repair it with a split-boot kit. And realize that you're on borrowed time.

If your inner cv boot is torn and leaking the best thing to do is purchase an OEM inner cv boot kit from eBay or a reputable online vendor and install it yourself or have a mechanic do it. Remove the axle, remove all of the old grease, clean up the axle, replace the cv boot with new grease and put everything back on the truck. I replaced both of mine and it took me about an hour and a half to 2 hours to get them done. I highly DO NOT recommend using a non-OEM boot kit or cv axle. I made that mistake once and learned my lesson.
