I've been slowly changing out all the incandescent bulbs to LED and this one has me stumped. I've located the fixture but can't seem to get my hands into the right position to get leverage to turn it. I've tried from up top and from below. Do I have to take the whole headlight assembly out to access the bulbs? I can't get any tools into the area to help. Any ideas?
I've tried it so many times before, I don't think there's really a way to get to it without taking the headlights off. Mind you, I have really small hands. You'll need to take off the front bumper to get to the headlights. It's very easy if you've done it before, might need some tugging here there if its the first time. Just make sure to put painters tape at the part where the from fender and bumper meets. Will definitely scratch that putting it back in without painters tape there. Good luck!
There's no reason to take the bumper off and pull the headlight. I've changed mine on both sides and it can be done from underneath. I have big hands also. Needle nose pliers can help if you can't get the leverage on it that you need. As you have found out, it takes a while to get the right angle on it, but once you do, it's a 5 minute job to do both sides.
Would you mind sharing a little more detail to how to replace the marker light from underneath?
I failed a safety inspection for that and shop is charging 50 bucks for that change which I believe is insanely high.
I tried to reach it from underneath on my own but i couldn't make it twist or move it at all. Not sure if I worked with the light bulb to begin with. I think it had white tab thing.
If you can elaborately how to change it from underneath will be highly appreciated!
You need small strong hands and a long arm. Or be willing to remove the front bumper cover, a metal brace, and pull the headlight assembly off (straight forward!)
About 1/8th of a turn counter-clockwise and then pull backward. Getting it back in there is just reversing the process, but lining up the socket is the tricky part.
