Hi, New to the Forum, but a long time Toyota owner. I am looking to buy my first Lexus, a GX470, that was originally from Chicagoland. Having spent the first 40 years of my life in the rust belt, I am curious what I might need to be looking for in a GX from that area with regards to corrosion. Anything been an issue? I once had a Honda Accord that nearly lost the gas filler pipe the body was so rusted. Thanks for all the great posts on this site!

 

It's from the land of snow & salt, so there will be rust. You'll need to inspect it to see if it's an acceptable amount.

If you want rust-free, look for vehicles from the southwest and California.

GX's don't rot like most Toyotas. Mine was in the NW suburbs of Chicago for 10 years or so and it is damn near spotless. It has some light scale rust on frame rails and other components, but it doesn't cause structural issues like it does on tacomas, tundras and 4Runners.
