Has anyone tried E15 in their vehicle?

Missouri requires 10% ethanol in all fuels. Of course there is the E85 that I never would touch. But several companies are now rolling out E15. 15% ethanol.

It is 10 cents less a gallon and has 1 more octane. From what I have read, there seems to be no downside. And the articles were not sponsored by the corn industry.

Thoughts?

 

Just doing some more research. Found other articles and blogs (Popular Mechanics and Exxon) that says only newer vehicles should use it.

Exxon had a nice chart that breaks it down by auto maker and year.

So looks like I will avoid it as my rig is an 2006

 

I would stay away from it.Ethanol dries things up and does bad things to rubber,seals,and other things,not to mention,fuel mileage goes down.I am sure newer cars have taken steps to supress the effects of ethanol,but,its still bad IMO. Here in NJ we have 10%,,but,some cheap,no name stations illegally have more. Shops around here that work on small engines(lawnmowers,weed wackers,snow blowers,etc.)say it drastically shortens the life of engines. What they say is true,as I have taken apart engines myself.Diaphrams and rubber parts get ruined over time.Its so bad that Stihl will tests chain saws and other products for the amount of ethanol in gas when a possible warranty claim is put in.Any more than 10%,they deny the claim. They have seen engines with up to 20% ethanol!

 

Don't use it. It eats away at the rubber parts in the fuel system.
