Default Navigation screen visibility

In sunlight my Nav screen is unreadably dim. Is this normal? I just got this 2005 GX, my first, this month and have not had the chance to compare it to others.

Do you have anything laying on top of the sunlight sensor on the dash?

No. It does transition to the night setting and is easier to see. It also has a green tint to it. I am thinking one of the colors of LEDs is out.

The color change says the display is bad. I don't know what backlight it uses, whether CFL or LED.

I seem to recall seeing a Youtube video where the owner took the Nav unit apart and just replaced the display (Lexus will only sell you the whole unit). I can't search for it at work, but you might have a look, if this is something you feel up to.
