I'm taking the cheapest way connecting my 6 via the Aux port. Sounds good to me and no interference.

Next to the seat heater dials and suspension adjustment dial is an audio Aux jack. Plug my 6 there and it plays thru the ML system.

Don't think thats standard equipment, it may have been added. I dont have an aux port there

Nope. All factory since new. You don't have it maybe because yours is an 06 or no ML system?

Aux plug was added as standard starting with the 2007 model year.

Like i said it is working great. no static or anything, clear sound to my car speakers. I am using it with a Samsung galaxy S4. Also own an 06 lexus GX470. Give it a try.
