So, I keep reading posts on 03-04's needing a bluetooth adapter to play songs from a cell phone's playlist. I can hook up my android to the car's hands-free phone, but the sound quality is poor...just like most I read about. However, I haven't been able to play my songs from my cell...can't even figure out the set-up.

Do I need the same bluetooth adapter as the earlier model? If so, which works best (tried and tested). If not, what am I doing wrong?

I have an '07 and, as far as i know, it only has Bluetooth Hands-free not Bluetooth Audio (for playing music via BT).

 

Thanks rider. Anyone try any of the bt subs discussed in forums to.stream music and improve cell utilization?

 

2007's and up have an AUX 3mm port next to the seat warmers that you can plug into to stream music from the headset connection in your phone. If you plug a Blackberry Music Gateway into that car AUX port, it gives you the ability to stream music wirelessly via A2DP (a sound protocol). Sound is good but there is some loss of volume.

If you have a 2006 or older, you need a kit that plugs into the back of the stereo in the car. There are many posts in the forum. Choices range from $50-$400. Mike

The only drawback I see to hooking up a bluetooth adapter to the AUX port is that you still don't have the ability to change songs via the steering wheel controls, which is a nice feature to have.

 

FlzRider, that is correct. Unfortunately, that is the point at which you have to get to the rear of the radio head unit (not a bad process, so it appears from the other posts and pics). Or, you can record MP3's (in .mp3 or .wma format) onto a CD or DVD (DVD if you have the DVD feature in the front unit...might be a Mark Levinson add on ?). The book say you have a limit of 192 folders and a total of 255 songs of songs per disc. So, if you sort well, can remember where a song is you like, and don't mind burning CD's / DVD/s, you could play songs that way and use the steering wheel controls. The disc & track names show up fine (just push the 'CH/DISC" button to recall the disc & track name if using the map or other feature but you have to be sitting still to see the 'trac list' button on the NAV touch screen (upper right corner of the screen). It isn't as cool as using the iPhone / Android to control music but if you arrange songs into groups that you can remember on the discs, you can have 1,520 songs (255 x 6 discs) worth of music controllable from the steering wheel. Holler if you go with an iPod adapter....would love to hear which one you get. Mike
