Default Front suspension replacement options

My wifes 2005 GX is bouncing up and down like a bobblehead. The GX just turned 100k and the front struts are shot. I first looked at OEM - priced around $500 - $700 just for parts. I've seen claims that the 4 runner set up will work on our GX's and I'm just looking for more info.

I've found Monroes, KYB struts ranging from $75 - $125 a side....I really don't care about the ride control - as I couldnt' really tell a difference between the settings anyway but I DON'T want any nanny lights on the dash. Has anyone on here run the 4 runner struts... if so, which ones? any other parts needed other than the struts themselves? Any steps required to bypass sensors for the ride control and prevent warning lights?

Thanks....

Thinking that you may find some answers on the Toyota 120 Platform Forum, I was going to post a link to that forum, but I see you're already been there.

Thanks Rick.. yes I've looked there too

Options I've found and would love feedback on

1. Stick with OEM - $459

2. Passive Conversion kit - $350... would do rear when the air ride goes south

3. 4runner Bilsteins - $110 per side
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Bilstein-Sho...orcev4exp=true

I've had good experience with Bilsteins and hope to hear positive feedback on the board that others have done this and like it...and no warning lights

thanks in advance for the feedback

OEM option is a little cheaper at Sewell w/ the CL discount. I would go this route. You may not like, or find useful, the adjustment system but it would devalue the car to replace it with an aftermarket solution. Are you sure the front shocks are shot? That doesn't seem to be a particularly common problem. Rear shocks and or height sensor is much more common cause for harsh ride.

thanks ...

yes, sure they are shot.. leaking grease and the car bounces/floats to the point its almost comical... It's so obvious even my mother -in-law asked "Is this car supposed to bounce like this when you hit the brakes?"
I was surprised too as the rest of the car still looks new
