Rosco,

I am sure your family mechanic could do it but I would check the Toyota dealer first (a lot cheaper than Lexus). Fortunately I have a friend who worked at Toyota (about 10 years as a mechanic at the dealer). He did mine for 1/2 the cost on the side but I would have taken it to Toyota if he couldn't. I guess it is just me but that is one part I would rather an experienced Toyota person do. Its not to complicated if you had the time and patience. I think Toyota quoted me $750-800 for the timing belt and waterpump.

Good luck

I went to me Lexus dealer, told him what Toyota wanted for the job and he agreed to meet it and...give me a free loaner. Business is down, they were smart to compete, they still made their money, even at $850. The service department is negotiatiable, just have your facts and prices in order.

Haha! 21-22mpg? Hmmm... Just got back into Vegas from a trip to San Diego. On the way out I got about 18mpg with a very strong headwind. On the way back I got 17mpg. I was admittedly doing 90-95mph with a BMW X5 4.8 and a couple Nissan Altimas of all things. The Lexus was a dream at speed. It's always nice to get a group going fast. BMW was in the lead (man that thing has got FAT tires), and the Altimas were behind. Made VERY good time obviously. Had it in sport mode for what that's worth.

Add a K&N filter. I went from 16.5 mpg to 19.5 - 20 MPG average. I run them on all my Lexus vehicles.

Just the filter or the entire intake? I always doubt these claims but hey, $45-60 bucks is worth it. I've heard mixed reviews on K&N being good and bad. My experience has ALWAYS been positive. Let us know....
