I drive a '04 GX 470 with 65K miles. My car went out of warranty in Dec '09. In May '10 my car started bouncing all over the place. I was car sick every time I drove it as were my passengers. Since May I have had to replace the front and rear struts, the air bags for the rear struts and the Suspension control CPU costing me about $4500. Ugh! I don't drive crazy or take my car off road so there is no reason I should have to be replacing both of them at 65K miles. The car drove well for a few weeks after the work was completed and now it's back to bouncing. I've had my car at the Lexus dealership for over a week now and even they can't figure it out. All of their tests show everything is fine but it does not drive fine at all.

Has anyone else out there had these problems? I'm trying to figure out when to cut my losses and buy a new car. Mine is paid for and I LOVE the car when it drives right so the idea of buying a new one is upsetting.

 

Given that you've paid over $4500 to have it fix, your Lexus dealer needs fix it, correctly.

 

Wow $4500 to replace them all??? Man, mine is 2004 too....kinda worry about it now.

Stupid question here, can it be replaced with regular non-air bags struts?

 

Yes, the rears can. Strutmasters sells them. There have been a few threads on here where they have been discussed, but I don't recall every seeing anyone ever actually buy them.

If / when I need new rears, I'll try them. I've already had to have both rear ride height sensors replaced once.

 

I thinks after spending such a price....its better u go back to the dealer and have a comparision done with another GX and dont take it back until you are satified.
