Default Trans fluid

I've always used Royal Purple in my engines. The dealer is not sure on the tranny,it says Toyota type 3&4 0n the RP quart container.Has anyone used, or can somebody confirm if this is the right thing to do?

I thought all years of the GX used World Standard (WS) trans fluid. No idea if Royal Purple offers WS. Your dealer should be more than certain on what to do!? IMHO avoid all but the factory stuff.

The Toyota Trans fluid WS does not need replacement except topping up at intervals, as these liquids lasts for the life of the vehicle, and toyota does not receommend replacement of the WS.

If there is no dip stick the trans requires no maintenance. It uses WS fluid. The only other fluid (besides OEM) that can be used is this;

Unless you tow or do lots of off roading I would leave the WS fluid alone esp if your trans is still under warranty.

The WS fluid is pretty robust. I have a 2006 4Runner V8 (identical motor to that in the GX) that my girlfriend drives but when it comes time to change out the tranny fluid, I will still be looking at the possibility of using the Amsoil ATL fluid Koz mentioned. I am not aware (and just checked) of any Redline or Royal Purple ATF that satisfied WS requirements, though I do use Redline D4 in my RX300 which satisfies Type IV requirements and had previously used Amsoil's Synthetic Universal which also satisfies Type IV requirements. While Redline and Royal Purple have Type IV equivalents, again they have not come out with a WS equivalent fluid.
