Default What is you MPG

My wife drives the truck, but I put the gas. She is very conservative driver. So I noticed that our GX470 is getting almost 15mpg, which is great, I think. Because our last car Infiniti FX45 was getting 14.7 mpg, and the car before BMW X5 4.6IS was getting terrible 12MPG.
So I think GX470 has pretty good MPG consider the size and the weight.

What is your MPG?

The on-board computer shows 16.2 mpg. I never actuallly calculated it.

My 4Runner OBC shows 20.1 vs calculated 19.2 mpg. I can live with 5% error on that.

From my experience, the onboard computer is usually 1 MPG over the actual calculated figure. In town, and I don't drive to conservatively, I get 16mpg calculated. Highway with the cruise set to 75mph, I can get around 18-19mpg calculated.

Did you reset your computer after you filled the tank?

Resetting the computer after every tank fill will not give a true reading - there is not enough mileage to average it out. Many variables come into play: highway vs city driving, your individual driving style (yours being more aggressive than your wife's), road surface condition, ambient temperature, tire pressure, etc...

My GX's computer has not been reset for at least 10000 miles. I think that the reading I get on my OBC is pretty close to be correct, probably within 5% margin of error.

I reset OBC on 4Runner about 5000 miles ago, when I took a long road trip. The trip was mostly highways, so at the end the OBC indicated 24.8 mpg. It has declined to 20.1 mpg fairly quickly, and has held steady at 20.1 for a while.

Probably the main factor is tires. I just replaced stock wheels, with new set 22" They are higher and wider, and heavier then stock wheels.
