Has anyone tinted their front windows and gotten a good match with the factory tint? If so can you recommend the manufacturer, percent and name of color. I am not trying to go darker than the factory windows. Thanks.

 

Yup had mine done the 2nd day after I purchased my GX and it looks awesome - almost a 100% match. Had my IS done all the way around too. That said, if you want the fronts as dark as the rears it might be illegal in your state - worth checking into. It's illegal in MD, but I did it anyway and I have never been stopped once for it. Take it to a tint shop and they will match color and darkness as close as they can. I would not recommend doing it yourself if you do not have experience especially if you want it to come out looking as good as the rear. A tint shop will likely charge $125 - $150 but it's worth it. My tint is made by 3M and the tint shade is 20% in a smoke color I think - it's been 3 yrs.

 

How does state inspection work in MD, cssnms? I know in PA it can sometimes be difficult to find someone who will pass the car with heavily tinted windows.

 

In MD the vehicle is inspected one time, either at the dealer upon delivery or by an inspection station when someone moves to the state. After that you are on your own, aside from the potential that you can get harassed by the fuzz. If a cop is having a bad day or would like a reason to pull you over they can use it as an excuse. At which point they can write you a ticket which will include not only a fine but a stipulation that you need to have it removed and show proof (i.e. get vehicle reinspected) in court that it was removed. Aside from that there is an emissions inspection that is done I think every 3 yrs, but they care nothing about tint.

 

Thanks for the info - I am not planning on doing this myself. I know a good tint shop that carries 3M and has tinted all our other cars really well in the past. Just looking for some user feedback. The laws here in TN do make this illegal but I have never had any issues with tinting even at inspection. We have a really dark tint on our 4runner, I usually roll my front windows down during inspection ...since it's in the summer does'nt look very suspicious

 

i always get my windows tinted, i've had it on my 350Z, MURANO, ES, GX. For front I go with 35% tint and film is made by sun guard if im not mistaking. if you are just getting fronts tinted it shouldn't run no more than 125

 

The tint is the first accessory I purchase on my vehicles. I ask for "darkest legal" and usually get to choose either grey or brown & match whichever is already on the vehicle.
