Brake and Rotor change.
Because I am a straight glutton for punishment and a man of principle, I am going to do my own brake and rotor change...in the Pittsburgh cold.
I have a 2003 GX470 that has a rear brake that is grinding when I apply....grinding like a snow shovel on gravel.
I figure I'll just change the rotors on both sides with the pads.
I searched the forum and did not see a step-by step, so i am going to wing it a bit.
are there any special tools I need for the GX470 (star bits etc other than the special lug lock nut).
Is changing brakes and rotors on the GX470 as easy as this....
1. Take tire off.
2. take one bolt out of caliber and flip it up.
3. take off rotor
4. replace rotor
5. push caliper piston back in.
6. replace pads
7. bleed brake line.
8. button it all up.
Or am i over simplifying something that it is worth the extra $200-300 to have a shop perform the replacement?

are you doing front and rear brakes? or just rear? if you are doing front and rear i suggest you take it to a mechanic/dealer for it. but if your doing rear brakes, it's pretty straight forward. I just recently got front and rear brake rotors, brake pads replaced at local mechanic and watched tech replace front and it doesn't look too easy especially mine being rusted and all at 58K miles. you will definately need dual piston tool(???) for the front calipers though.

Rodeo360 - Only thing you missed is that you need to completely take the calipers off with the mount. So you take off the calipers, then there are two bolts that hold the mount onto the wheel. You need to take it off to get the rotors off. Don't need any special tools...should be pretty straight forward - on the rotors, there should be a screw hole where you can turn a screw in to free it from the hub...helps if its rusty to do it that way instead of hammering the crap out of the rotor....
