Easy to do and yes others have done it. Try the search function and I am sure you will find what you are looking for

It's pretty much plug and play, buy a pair from the dealer, remove the old ones and put the new ones in.

Default 2008 tailights...need help

I contacted Lindsay Lexus about purchasing a set of 2008 taillights for my 2004 GX470. They are more than happy to order a set for me, but they told me there are two types. See attached below:

When we looked up the taillights yesterday, there was two different part numbers but they were both the same price. One was just the regular taillight, and one was for the "sports package". The parts screen does not distinguish what the difference is between the two. If you're not sure which one you want, I can try to further investigate but in many cases subtle differences in mounting or electrical connections, for example, may cause installation issues.

OK, is there a difference between their two SKU's? I don't want to drop $400+ on something I cannot return. I very much like the looks of the 2008 lites with their clear turn signals and brighter color red shells.
Thanks,
Fred

Wow nathan, I just notice you have a 16000K HID kit. When you are behind another car, do people actually mistake you for a cop and pull over and let you pass?

Knock on wood, not yet! I have even been behind an Alexandria police car and he didn't notice. The blue is very beautiful, no where as deep as a true police blue light, but it still looks wonderful at night, with both the low beams and fog lights on. Maybe the police attribute the bluish lights as a Lexus thing

I have a 2004 GX and had my dealer order the 08' tailights. I believe that sport package or no sport package, 08' tailights are all the same (deeper red with clear turn signal).

They cost around the $400 mark. I installed them fine and the red is definitely a nicer red. I switched hosting services so my old pics probably dont work.

Let me know if you have any questions. For my Blizzard Pearl, it makes a world of difference IMO. I hate yellow.

Curious, did you replace the turn signal bulbs with amber colored ones since the plastic is clear vs. amber?

Yes I did. I originally picked up some PIAA amber bulbs that appear silver, but light up yellow. However for some odd reason, they fit really tight and would only work occasionally. So I took them out and picked up some generic amber bulbs from the local Autozone and those work great and actually look great. The amber lights don't reflect too much inside the clear housing leaving the tailights looking clear.

Try Philips silver vision, they look white from outside the clear lense and light up amber.

My contact at Lindsay Lexus did some research and found that the only difference between the 2008 taillights "Sport Package" and "Base Package" are the backup lights. On the sport package they are "tinted" whatever than means.
