Default Gx droning question...

At this point is there any general consensus that this problem is no longer an issue with these vehicles? I did a search and see a tonne of post from 03 right up to the early days of 07...Has this problem been dealt with consistently for you Gx owners at this point?

I am thinking about getting an 08 and am just trying to gauge whether this will be an issue for me still at this point...

Cheers

Unless you are one of the very unlucky few, you will not have this problem.

i did complain about it at the dealer during a maintainance visit... tech says: "it's normal..." due to "harmonics stuff" he says... i am confused with and i think is BS. I feel mine right around 1300 to 1700 rpm... its annoying since that's most of my cruising rpm. for now I just turn up the radio volume to counter it but i do intend to have them fix it hopefully thru warranty and
TSIB ST004-04 Steering/Driveline - Vibration/Drone.
I am not sure if 08s are affected as this TSIB is for 03-04 models.
Overall... GX470 is a great truck! and I am very satisfied with mine.

I am sure it is a beautiful truck but for the money they are charging for these luxury SUVs it is hard to believe they are trying to sell stuff like this as normal...It almost seems like something you would expect from an old GMC jimmy or something...know what I mean? It's just unfortunate...Part of the reason why people buy Lexus is for the "Lexus ride"...which I understand is supposed to be quiet :-)

Cheers

i have always suspected that the droning is exhaust related... ie. muffler, loose connections on the exhaust system or muffler cannot handle the V8 engine... too much vibration. I saw a post before on RX300 where they were adding weights unto the muffler to counter the drone maybe reduce vibration. So I was wondering if anyone have upgraded their muffler and if so solved or reduced the "drone" effect too?

That is correct on the RX300, there were 2 dampers on the exhaust system (sorry my RX is hardly stock anymore) and they were right near the catalytic converter and another one just in front of the right differential. I did remove them when my RX300 was still stock several years ago in order to lessen weight, and the difference in tone from the exhaust was a bit noticeable.
