Hi all, we just recently bought an 2006 Blizzard white GX470 and couldnt be happier . We tried to find one with the sport package to get the birds eye maple (black) instead of the wood grain, but after three months, it seemed impossible, so we just got the dark grey interior. Is there anyone out there that sells the birds eye maple pieces? Lexus is telling us they cant get it. Otherwise i am thinking of overlaying everything in real carbon fiber or getting it painted/airbrushed. My only concern is the steering wheel with its wood grain on it. Has anyone else modded thier trim package, or replaced it with something else? I don't mind the wood grain, but want to be different, thats why i am thinking the carbon fiber?

Thoughts? Suggestions?

Thanks

Scooter

Welcome to the forum, Scooterpie!

I'd be really careful about trying to paint over the heavy laquer type coating on the Lexus wood - especially on the steering wheel. I like a softer wheel and am thinking about putting some type of premade wheel cover on it.

What is the plan with the carbon fiber?? Sounds interesting.

Thanks, i will check them out.

As far as the carbon, i want to take off all the wood pieces and sand them, overlay them in carbon fiber. i will probably have to do a lot of work to get it right, just because the carbon and resin will protude about 1/16 from where it sits flush with the dash. I am thinking about making my own mold that way it will be perfect, and just cut out what i need. But i dont want to spend forever on it. But i figure if i do make the mold and someone else wants it as well. i have mold and just have to make another set. But there is a lot of time involved in the mold. i've done it once on an old car, turned out good. But much much easier to overlay. And i don't want to get a stick on carbon look-a-like kit. i want the real thing if i do it. But the way the pieces attach and sit against the dash there isn't any room for error. So if i mess up, i'll have to buy more tirm. but i am going to tae it all out first to make sure each piece is do-able. but hopefully this site can do my wheel in carbon, then i'll get started!
