In response to your reply, all I have to say is "NEW YORK." I wouldn't even dream of buying an expensive car there, let alone a 4Runner. Maybe the 4Runner would be good for the pothole streets of NYC. I also realize that 22 inch wheels will be terrible to ride on in New York, but in California where cars are a lifestyle and culture, parking is free, and the freeways broad and long, it's all about accessorizing your car just similar to accessorizing a suit (if you do have one that is not rented)...... you have to have nice shoes (chrome 22's), nice eyeware (xenons and tint), and and sharp dry-cleaned look (detail job every week). I guess in NY it is very hard to keep your nice accessories looking spanking new and shiny. Heck, I can't even walk a couple of blocks in Manhattan without scuffing my loafers. For that urban sophisticated look, the GX470 is a good choice in NYC..... interesting that I saw at least one GX470 every block when I was there last week. I should have asked if they engage their 4x4 low gears for the dangerous and arduous puddles.

When I give him a lift he mentions the nicer ride, more comfortable seats, softer leather, interior looks with the wood trim (even he doesn't really care for the UFO look the 4Runner has), and the extra roominess... and the list goes on...

2. You (and the others like you) must be either a Toyota salesman, an ***, or someone that needs to get a life. Calling us vain and only buying a Lexus for the nameplate is idiotic considering that this is a LEXUS BOARD!!! If you are so anti-Lexus then get the hell off this board and let us enjoy the purchase we made without having to constantly deal with the ignorant remarks and subtle put-downs. If you just enjoy this sort of thing (back to "needing a life...") then why don't you go down to the local biker bar and shout out a few clever anti-biker remarks. It would be much more thrilling... for you and us.

By the way... if the added luxuries simply aren't worth it to *you*, then that is a personal choice. But simply saying that they are the same truck is plain ol' ignorant.

i have to say i agree that visual/comfort -wise the 4Runner and the GX are on 2 different levels! my dealer recommended i test drive the 4Runner before making my decision and to be honest i would not even get into that truck after i saw what Toyota did with the interior. if you look closely there are many differences in the exterior body style. all of the dimensions are different (exterior and interior). you will sacrifice comfort in your seats, handling, suspension, etc with the 4Runner. dash, controls.....you get the point.....

now, back to the whole point of this thread.....

if you're going to ask whether that is a good price for the used GX you need something in your area to compare it to. you're asking a broad "is this a good deal" question to people all over the country. i paid 46k plus tax for my GX and all i got was 3rd row seats/air!! (about 3k off sticker). we bought my bf's GS from the same salesman previously, so if i would have went elsewhere i would have paid even more.

my point is, to me that sounds like a good deal, the guys in california think i'm crazy.....BUT....price out an 04 with the same options and compare to that. then you can ask yourself if the 14k miles plus unknown use/abuse is worth the price discount.

I really should not have said anything about your GX with the 22, Im looking at some 22's, I really like my truck and the only thing I like just as much or more would be the GX or LandCrusier/LX, Im young and bought the 4Runner for 15k less then a loaded GX I wanted but figured that 15k will be well spent on a condo at the time the Lex dealer had limited trucks and they where sold before getting to the dealer.

I like your responce but I need to go buy some suits now can you really rent them, not that I would.

The city is a harsh place for a vehicle, their was a pot hole that should really just be classified as a hole, 6 feet long and wide and 4 feet at the deepest and I guess they where removing a manhole sewer cause their was a hole that if you fell in you would really hurt yourself, some guy in a lifted F150 went through it over it but everyone else went around it, the next day they dropped a giant steel plate on it, I guess someone destroyed their car going into it.

The 4Runner has the perfect combination of upscale luxury and comfort while at the same time blending in with the rest, not tryin to have someone target my vehicle when it is sitting on city streets, people are looking at it, trust me all the wrong eyes would be attached to your GX here

I will say detailing here is a pain, you wash it, it will drizzle it always does in fact my friend moved out to Cali and was like you wash the car it stays clean I can not tell you how nasty it is when it rains lightly in the city, the road grim that coats the truck is just bad, thankfully I live outside the city, have you been here when it snows freakin nasty, think of a melting frozen icey that is the flavor of used motor oil and road salt and then put that on the sidewalks then they throw it into the street and let the cars drive over it, thats a coating you want to wash off fast.

Last thing, during heavy rains you could water ski behind the vehicles, their are some really good waves, think I said enough and now I gotta buy some suits

Default Very Entertaining...

Love the description!!!...nonetheless, we are taking a 10 year anniversary trip to NYC in 2 weeks!

Great place to visit, but I understand the frustration of one who has to live in the city, and the complete inability to keep an upscale vehicle safe & clean....point well taken!

After debadging my back end of everything but the Lexus emblem, have had many novice folks ask me "just what the hell is that thing?"...

Overall the city is a great place lots to do and see, it's hell on vehicles but you will be able to tell which ones are driven daily into the city, their usually the camrys or accords that have been side swiped and the front and back bumpers are different colors.

If your gonna do any walking bring sneakers or comfortable shoes, even if your in a suit or dressed to go out just switch the shoes when you get to the place, if your hoping in and out of cabs then your fine but if you plan to walk

To blend in don't look up at the buildings, don't take pictures, don't say hello or be friendly, curse once in awhile so the locals think your 1 of us just kidding but have fun and stay in brightly lite areas at night, just go witht he crowd

Ok Ok..

I think Allison is right on the whole price issue with location. It just saddens me to see others with such low prices vs. us here in the midwest.

As for th 4runner vs. gx comparison this has been done on this and every toyota board. We should not go there with this thread. I have just drove the new 4runner and I was not sold, vs our 01 rx. I need to drive the gx immediatly afterwards, but will have to drive 4 hours to do this.

Thanks for all the comments!

What about 42K. This appears to be the lowest they will go?

If you really want it buy it but I would have them throw in the 15k and 30k service intervals at least the 15k cause it is at 14

Plus any kind of extended warranty it is a pre-owned certified car right

Cool then it should be covered to 100k not that you will need it, and if you really want it and it passes your approval get it, just pull the dip stick and make sure the oil does not look like tar

I really enjoyed your comments about NYC and how one should live there in order to stay out of trouble. It's quite amazing that so many people live on such a small island. I stayed there for almost a week with my boyfriend and did all the touristy things: I had my camera on a lanyard and took pics of everything, I looked up at the tall buildings like a wide-eyed kid, and I smiled and said good day to everyone. You would be surprised to know that everyone was friendly: the cops, vagrants, regular UES folk too. All of this without getting mugged and stabbed! Regardless of which SUV you drive, the bad elements will always eye both cars. They are, of course, very expensive cars and well adapted to drive on harsh roads or lack thereof. I tested my GX's offroading ability on a recent excursion to my family's homesite and I was quite amazed at the handling of the car. It was very smooth and the air suspension was quite useful in clearing some rocks and steep edges. But I can't stand to think that the car can get scratched by a rogue brush or rock. *sigh* when will we ever learn. Oh, and yes, for those who are resourceful enough, you can rent a suit. Anything can be rented nowadays, granted that you have money. Oh and $15,000 can hardly get you anything these days, maybe a severely discounted Civic. I'm surprised that u said that you can get a condo for that much (not even enough for a down payment on anything around NYC). Also be glad that you don't live in Southern California: tract homes are nearing 1 million dollars, starting price.

To stay on topic, yes, that is a good deal on a GX470 (42k). I agree that you should have some service intervals subsidized. Also, have some dealer acceessories added on, such as a sport bumper trim, car cover, rear spoiler, extra CD magazine, teflon/acrylic paint protectant, clear or vinyl front end mask, etc. All these things are very negligible for the dealer, especially when they already have a huge margin for this "CPO" truck.

Much luck to everyone,

cyberflip

PS: Makes me wonder why some of our guests (those without GX's) feel like they have enough ***** to say that "their TOYota is better than ours." A bit childish eh?

15k can't buy any kind of home but if I add it to what I have then I can get a condo or a house, I decided 15k more on a car was not worth it at the time and better spent towards a place to live and oh yeah I have an M2 in the works.

It is childish to say the 4Runner is better then a GX but it takes a real genious to say the GX is completely different then then the 4Runner, they do share identical powertrains

Looks ok. I did not get the GX, everyone I found had the rear shimmy. Even all the new ones. So I jumped ship (only for a short time) to a Tahoe Z71. This is quite a change from the GS4 but fun and nice in its own regards. just not the big head turner like lexus products. But for a new 2004 one with every possible option for $37K out the door new was a good deal to me, and interest at 3%.
