Default New Paint job or repaint areas? Cost effectiveness?

Well, I had my car washed yesterday at CarSPA which I will never recommend to anyone, horrible place.

Any ways I decided to take some pictures of the cars paint job to give to a fellow CL member to see what he feels he could get out with buffer as I am pretty unhappy with the number of dings/scatchs I have. Looking at all of them I am not sure which is a better option to repaint the areas or have it totally redone. From what I can tell almost each major area has some type of paint work needing to be done.

Here are a few pictures

I was thinking of painting it flat black after reviewing another thread, flat black just looks really nice, would it cost more to get flat black vs it repainted its original color? What makes some of the cars with flat black look alot diff then others? Looks like no gloss or something?

Any ways let me know what u guys think

Most of those can be buffed out. If they are deep (which some look like they are), then some touch-up paint, fine-grit sandpaper and a buff should make them indistinguishable.

Most of that could be buffed/compounded out and a little light wetsanding will make them almost invisible if just polishing does not work. For the other chips and deep scratches I would try some Dr. Colorchip, Lanka, or just plain touchup. Does not look like you need a repaint to me which is going to end up costing you several thousand dollars.

Yes, I agree.

I would like to show you an example on my own car. The first two pictures were taken the first day I bought the car (two years ago). It had already been washed. The paint was in extremely poor condition; way worse than yours (judging by the pictures you provided).

A good buffer (rotary, preferably), polishes, and waxes will go a long way. I took these pictures (for this specific thread) a few minutes ago. I had some spare time last Sunday to detail my car. It hasn't been washed since then. That’s why it’s a little dusty.

My point is: a good detailer should be able to remove most of the scratches from your car. The paint will look almost like new; at a fraction of the cost of repainting even just a single panel (i.e.: front bumper) of the car. Plus it is OEM paint. You don’t have to worry about overspray, orange peel, etc. Good luck, man.

I bought the rotary from Harbor Freight last year for $30. Still going strong.

so i'm in the same dilenma on what to do with the paint on my car...it's got some miles on it so there's a lot of road chips here and there and some deep scratches. i have a black onyx and those pics that whazzz posted are amazing!!! so would it be safe to say that the deeper scratches should be touched up and then everything color sanded?

I am not much of a gambler. I do hit up the clubs once in awhile. Sorry to get off-topic!

Sorry to see those pics DangWhat. Those scratches are pretty deep. It looks like they put rocks on the towel and starting wiping or hitting it on your car. Sucks =\ IMHO, if you want to save money and ok with that color. Go invest in a dual buffer and buff it out with compound. And give it a good wax afterwards. Use Meguiars. GL!
