Default OEM nav in a non nav equipped 98-00GS

I want to add the OEM nav igation system to to my 98 GS300. How difficult would it be to intall in my non NAV equipped GS 300??? How much am I looking at price wise? Or if I get it from a wrecked 2000 GS300 complete with the computer, wiring, and screen ?? As long as it will work, I will probably do it. Anyone done it before???

You would want to look for a 01+ nav system though because they switched it to DVD based and the map is better looking. I think it would be neat to take it one step further and put in a 01+ steering wheel with the radio buttons on it. I don't see why it wouldn't work?? I haven't looked into it too much since i'm not really ready to try this, but I keep my eyes on ebay and such and there have been some nav computers from LS430's popping up lately although I'm not sure if they are the same.

Default gs nav

So... I can still use a system from a 2000 right??/ I think that upgrading to nav would be a big enough step... let alone trying to go for the gold with the dvd.... But you say it will right??/ No issues with the radio??? I know the computer will be fine... Just wondering about the connections from the existing radio. I have the stock pioneer system. I just want to make sure i can do it and also how hard it would be. I am pretty savy when it comes to electrical stuff.... but this would be kinda big to upgrade to Nav on a non Nav equipped GS. Any input will be appreaciated.... So I know if I should even go forward with it. As long as it will be compatible. What are the diferences between the dvd based one and the "other" type??? What is the DVD type the one that you can adapt to watch dvd movies??? So this one is not possible?? And if so.. can I later on add a TV tuner to the 2000 Nav system... Lots of questions I know.... I just want to knjow what i am getting into and what I am going to be able to do once i hook up the system.... Bottom line is :

Can I use the nav system on my non nav equipped gs? 98 adding a 00 nav system
can i add a tv tuner module?
can i add dvd capability? maybe add the actual dvd player and use the screen to watch them?

I'd PM Letsride to get more info. He did a lot of research on the matter (including communications with BananaGS) before putting his Nav in. He'd be a good source of experience to draw from. Hopefully, he remembers a lot of the details of when he did it.

Default 1999 GS 300, Converting to Navigation

I currently own a 1999 GS300, without navigation....What would it take to convert my car to a stock navigation system? Is this difficult and/or worth the time and money. I like to OEM look and really do not want to move to an aftermarket unit. Any ideas of where to buy all the needed items for conversion and what kind of price am I potentially looking at? Thanks for all the help!!

yeah definitely talk to letsride for more info. he did it so that means it could be done, but i would assume that you will need some harness or at leat you will have to make your own in order for everything to fit. for sure it's not going to be easy at all, this involves quite some parts

and to upgrade to 01+ it's even harder. most of the nav units are combined with the ML system, that's hard. and if you wanna integrated the setup on the steering wheel as well? man good luck let's take it one step at a time first, hehe

If I get the harnesses from the car for nav system.. Will it make it easier to connect?? It sounds hard, but not that hard to me... As long as you have a basic understanding of it... I did the Mod on the stereo if you guys recall.. the white LEd and other colors.. that was a bit of work as I was using cell phone LEd's as the light sourse... So I think I am going to go with it.. As soon as I get the nav system, anyway.

Hey good luck to you on a tuff install and a lot of $$$$ + work. I looked into this to and for what it would cost me I bought a ALPINE IVA-D901 and NAV piece . Plus a way easier install I wish you the best of luck keep us posted on pictures as you go. Also remember one thing if you mess this up think about how much it will cost to fix?

So if the 01+ are levinson, you could get the matching disc changer and amp and it should work right? Basically the only thing to hold it back would be if the climate control wiring is different right? The steering wheel controls are probably one harness going to the radio, i'm guessing. If you had a complete harness from say, a wrecked gs430 it could be plug and play????? My only other concern would be the RDS system on the new ones but i'm not sure how they work.

it's easier said than done i would say. yes if you are given all the harness and stuff then you can probably do it, but do you know what harness, which, and where do they run? the amp for the ML is completely different than that of the base system, and you will need changes to your trunk too, together with the fact that you will need to drill a hole on the dash for the center speaker

i am not saying it's impossible, but i am saying it's too hard to be worth it imho
