Need to grab some winter wheels and tires in the next month or two but Tirerack and Discount Tire look like slim pickins for our stock 19" sizes. I'm guessing that sizing down to an 18" is best as usual but am worried about caliper clearance. Anyone have info on which 18" wheels will clear? Or other suggestions on a winter setup?

18 inch wheels will not clear the calipers. You will have to go with oem 19 inch gsf/rcf wheels and sottozero/pilot alpins. Alternatively call tirerack and they may be able to hook you up with 19 inch wheels with snow tires that were originally used for the porsche panamera application but could also be used for the gsf. I know at least one owner here who used the panamera setup from tire rack for the gsf.

 

Not 100% true, but only certain 18 inch wheels will clear them. Volk Racing TE 37s will clear as will any line in the CCW Corsair series, however, you don't want to spend big bucks on winter wheels. My recommendation is to put all weather tires on the stock wheels and if you are looking to get another set, get a set of nice 19s or 20s (Volk, Advan, etc) for the summer.
