Default Transmission question

I've had my GSF for about a year now. It's my daily driver and for the most part, I drive restrained other than when an opportunity presents itself. Like today.

I was entering a highway from an on ramp, and I had a wide open straight stretch with no traffic. Opportunity. So I switched into sport+ and hit the accelerator really hard and the car launched like I never experienced. The car downshifted into 3rd and held this gear to the point where it seemed stuck. I switched into manual and upshifted manually. What's weird is I swear the display changed to display "3 D" from a simple "D".

Has anyone else experienced this? Is this normal?

In auto mode it should show "D" but if you use the paddles in auto you can see "3 D", but when you shift into manual it should show just "3". You can also use the MID screen on the left to see what gear it is when in normal auto mode displaying "D". The transmission has a lot of algorithms, when in auto, where you can dictate what gear not to go above, and for some time it will hold it, depending on your aggression, and then eventually it will go back up to top gear (8th) when the conditions permit. I wish in Sport mode in auto, I could restrict it to 6th. Sport+ in auto will generally stay in 5th for a while, and 6th until 80mph.

This helps explain what was going on, thanks for the explanation. It was chaotic and had me confused what the transmission was doing. I must have shifted while in auto and before I could get the gearbox into M.

I think you were so pumped up that you squeezed the steering wheel and the paddle in the process LOL
Totally normal behavior when you get that V8 hit!

The different drive modes definitely have their quirks. I'm learning about them as well. Thanks for posting up.

Interesting, same thing happened to me this morning, I did the exact same thing you did going on ramp. 😁
