Hi All,

My 2018 GS F is just shy of 34k miles and I've discovered the front and rear struts are leaking. Apologies if this has already been answered. But are leaking struts common at this mileage? I know this can be very subjective depending in driving conditions and habits, etc. But just trying to see what other members have experienced.

Also any recommendations for a local shop to perform these repairs would be appreciated! I'm located in Orange County, CA.

Thanks!

Mine started leaking at 25k on a 2017. Seems to be fairly normal for these cars.

Thanks for the input. Have you encountered the same issues since replacing the struts?

Same here. 25K miles. 2017 with AVS. Maybe the Sachs adjustable aren’t up to the task? I’m debating on coilovers for mine right now.

37k on my 350. Different strut part # but same problem. We started a AVS unhappy Club.

Thanks for the input Steve! Starting to seem like one of the common issues that comes up.

Now I’m faced with the decision to go with OEM struts again or consider other alternative/options.

I've only got 12k on the new ones and they are still good. Not lowered and totally stock.

Appreciate the info! I'm leaning towards OEM struts again as I heard they're better for everyday driving. Would just suck to have to deal with replacing OEM struts prematurely again in the future based on the pattern I'm seeing from other owners.

The oem ones seem to be fairly cheap at least. I'd stick with those. I don't know if you'd get a light on the dash if you bought coilovers instead.

2016 with over 120k miles. No leaks.

Just took the suspension off the IS F to replace it with Ohlins DFVs. 215k, no leaks.

Sounds like the AVS units are not well made.

Had this issue on my '16 GS350 that I owned prior to an F. For what it's worth it popped up after car sat for a bit. Was not cheap to fix at dealer.

Thanks for the info! Dealership quoted close to $3,800 for parts and labor for both front and rear struts. Quick search online has OEM parts at about $580 so I'll likely go that route and find a reputable local shop to do the work.

Thanks for the input. Based on what I've read and what other owners have reported here, AVS seems to be one of the more common issues and likely not well made like you said.

My 2016 doesn't have AVS.
My shocks have been leaking for 2 years.

I'm changing them out next week finally. But then again, I have lowering springs.

Hello,

We would recommend aftermarket coilovers instead of OEM shocks. We can do RSR or Toms coilovers! Way less than OEM.
