Default Check engine code P2610

Got a check engine light today. Pulled the code P2610 - ECM/PCM Internal Engine Off Timer Performance.

Anyone experience this?

The car battery tested bad and needed replacing so I installed a new battery today and cleared the code. Hopefully the low battery voltage was the cause.

DTC Number: P2610
Monitoring Item: Soak timer (built into ECM)
Malfunction Detection Condition: ECM internal malfunction
Trouble Area: ECM

Description:
The soak timer operates after the engine switch is turned off. When a certain amount of time has elapsed after turning the engine switch off, the soak timer activates the ECM to perform malfunction checks which can only be performed after the engine is stopped. The soak timer is built into the ECM.

Monitor Description:
  1. While the engine is running, the ECM monitors the synchronization of the soak timer and CPU clock. If these two are not synchronized, the ECM interprets this as a malfunction, illuminates the MIL and stores the DTC.
  2. If the soak timer activates the ECM even though only a short amount of time has elapsed since the engine switch was turned off, or if the soak timer does not activate the ECM even though a considerable amount of time has elapsed since the engine switch was turned off, the ECM determines that the soak timer is malfunctioning, illuminates the MIL and stores a DTC the next time the engine switch is turned on (IG).

Confirmation Driving Pattern:
  1. Connect the GTS to the DLC3.
  2. Turn the engine switch on (IG) and turn the GTS on.
  3. Clear the DTCs (even if no DTCs are stored, perform the clear DTC procedure) (Click here).
  4. Turn the engine switch off and wait for at least 30 seconds.
  5. Turn the engine switch on (IG) and turn the GTS on.
  6. Start the engine.
  7. Idle the engine for 10 minutes or more.
  8. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Trouble Codes.
  9. Read Pending DTCs.HINT: If a pending DTC is output, the system is malfunctioning.
  10. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Utility / All Readiness.
  11. Input the DTC: P2610.
  12. Check the DTC judgment result.
Inspection Procedure:

HINT:
  1. DTC P2610 is set if an internal ECM problem is detected. Diagnostic procedures are not required. ECM replacement is required.
  2. Read freeze frame data using the GTS. The ECM records vehicle and driving condition information as freeze frame data the moment a DTC is stored. When troubleshooting, freeze frame data can help determine if the vehicle was moving or stationary, if the engine was warmed up or not, if the air fuel ratio was lean or rich, and other data from the time the malfunction occurred.

Thank you! If the check engine comes on again, I'll just take it to the dealer for warranty. No check engine light since the battery replacement and I've been driving quite a bit.

I probably just jinxed it.

You bet - glad to help! Chances are good that you'll never see that trouble code again.

Hey OP, I got the same code today too. I don't want to bring it to the dealer just yet. What did you do to clear the code?
