30K maintain - what need to be done
My car is almost 30k is up, I wonder what need to be done for maintaining
Air filter
Cabin filer
Oil change
Tire rotation
Trans fulid < is this neccessary, I am thinking drain and fill 3-4 qts.
Is there any thing else I am missing? Dealer want to do all above around $450 so I am trying to do it myself, dealer not even change the trans fluids.

Blinker fluid. :-P
If you want to keep it for long time and don't mind get down and dirty then trans fluid is a must
Wiper insert if need.

30K cost breakdown
Hi everyone,
my 30K is coming up, been doing some homework I wanted to share and get feedback on.
At Lexus Stevens Creek, they want $600 for the full service, which they detail as:
Install Battery Terminal Protectors
Fuel Injection Additive
Add Windshield Washer Fluid
Replace Front Wiper Refills
Replace Remote Key Battery
Inspect Brake Pads and/or Linings, Rotors and/or Drums
Perform Battery Test and Report
Inspect All Lights and Report
Inspect Drivers Side Floor Mat for Proper Installation
Replace Engine Oil and Engine Oil Filter
Reset Service Indicator
Road Test
Replace Air Cleaner Filter
Replace Brake Fluid
Replace Cabin Air Filter
Inspect Body Paint and Corrosion
Inspect Brake Lines, Hoses and Connections
Inspect Drive Axle Boots Inspect Exhaust System and Heat Shields
Inspect Fuel Tank, Cap, Line and Hoses
Inspect Rear Differential Fluid Level
Inspect Suspension Ball Joints Inspect Steering Operation and Linkage
Inspect Engine Coolant Level
Inspect Transmission for Leaks
Inspect Rack and Pinion Assembly
At the local Toyota dealership, they want $500 (based on Avalon cost).
Further, Lexus SC also gave me pricing for the two things I don't want to do:
oil/filter change $95
Brake Fluid replacement $163
Looking at the rest of the 30K list, I can do air/cabin filters in about 30 minutes, wipers/battery/fuel cleaner in very little time too. I have the cabin filters and wipers already.
Regarding all the inspections, most of these are done during the oil/filter change, excluding (at least from the last time I did the oil/filer change with Lexus SC):
Inspect Body Paint and Corrosion
Inspect Brake Lines, Hoses and Connections
Inspect Drive Axle Boots Inspect Exhaust System and Heat Shields
Inspect Fuel Tank, Cap, Line and Hoses
Inspect Rear Differential Fluid Level
Inspect Suspension Ball Joints Inspect Steering Operation and Linkage
Inspect Transmission for Leaks
Inspect Rack and Pinion Assembly
I can appreciate that these inspections take time, and that time is worth something. But I am also thinking that this is not really needed at this point in time as the car is two years old and I am not experiencing any issues. I think the standard lookover during the oil change is probably enough, plus get the brake fluid replaced by them. I can do the air filters.
What do you all think?

I personally would have the Lexus dealership do the engine oil and oil filter change just so it will be recorded in your car's history just in case 'if' you have an engine issue Lexus could not blame the problem on you not changing the oil and filter as recommended, or not using the proper engine oil and/or filter. All the other stuff you can easily do yourself if needed/wanted.

Your right xbimmer, all of those inspections take time and have value. Your not going get any of that with just paying for an oil change. As I've gotten older, I've come to value preventive medicine more. And a lot of those car inspections are just the same, looking for issues before they become problems. Whether that has cost-value is for you to decide.
